The company I work for has an internal website where you can post classifieds. I found this powerbook but it is very overpriced at around 1500$! I'm about to call the guy and negotiate. What would be a good price?
powerbook G4 1.86 Ghz. Ram 2G . 80 GB hard disk widescreen 15.4 bluetooth ,wirless.

Well, that notebook is worth about $300-500 less than that, but good luck getting them to go down that far.
-
If he considers a trade, would it sound fair to ask for 300$ plus his powerbook for my t60 mentioned in my sig?
-
That sounds weird, I'd check some facts before doing anything - there is no Powerbook G4 1.86Ghz. The max the PBG4 got to was 1.67GHz, the closest to 1.86 you would get would be the Macbook Pro Core Duo 1.83Ghz.
Looks like a nice enough machine though, good luck getting it
-
His asking price is highway robbery, but if you trade the T60 for the Powerbook your terms are not unreasonable.
-
Well, he also mentioned it has a camera so he might mean a mbp. But why would he say powerbook g4
-
If it's got a camera built in, it sounds like a MBP. Something just doesn't sound right here...
-
He's a co-worker. I don't think he would dare rip me off
I've heard that a camera was an option on the later power book.

street price would be ~1200 - 1400 max for the MBP 1.83, but it was standard with only 512mb ram. His is upgraded to 2 gigs (200 extra) so he wants 1500. To him that may sound reasonable, but I think you should talk him down to atleast $1300USD, lower if you can. I assume its in perfect working order with minor imperfections. If so, then it isn't highway robbery.
on a side note: the MBP looks exactly like a Powerbook, so he is probably just confused. But it can not be a G4 at that speed regardless, nor have a camera as the other posters noted. It also is worth far more than $300 either way. The 15" powerbook G4 1.67 is worth nearly $1200USD at stock configuration -
I've seen powerbook 1.67's go for $1500, but that WAS canadian...
Either way, the seller sounds completly unaware of what it is he's selling, so I'd either a) avoid him or b) try to haggle the price lower, he probably doesnt know much about it or what its worth. -
I wasn't trying to say he would rip you off. I meant that the specs just didn't fit together. Most likely it is a Macbook Pro, although why he would be listing it as 1.86 instead of 1.83 is a little unusual. I would take a look at it. It would be a little much for a PowerBook G4, but it would be a pretty decent price for a Macbook Pro. I have to ask why you would want to exchange your T60 though. I've heard those are great machines. Unless you want to completely get away from Windows, I'd keep the T60 and get another Mac when they come out with some new models post-Santa Rosa. $0.02

Thanks for the advice mate. In fact, thank you all for the advice.
Where did I say 300$? Oh, I meant 300$ plus the powerbook for my t60. -

Sorry if I confused ya.. I was referring to ElKid's comment when I said $300, just so you weren't confused by my much higher estimation. Anyhow, I was glad to help, good luck
-
I know what you meant
But El Kid said it was worth 300-500 less than 1500 which is the same price you suggested
Thanks for your help. All of you.
