Hi! Since I'm based in France and the notebooks here are ridiculously expensive, I'm planning to ask my relatives in the US to buy me an MBA before they visit me here in July. Based on your experience, how much do you think will Apple reduce the price by then? I have my eyes on the $3098 version.

It's unlikely that the price will be reduced significantly.

If you buy from the Apple store, the price will remain the same, unless you purchase a refurbished model.
Other retailers, such as Amazon or something, might slightly discount the models they have on sale.

Apple typically does not lower its prices, rather it refreshes its hardware lineup ever now and then and keeps the same price points.

Yeah apple doesn't lower prices... generally. Like chris said, what they would do is refresh the hardware, add features, whatever, but keep the price the same. I'm hoping they add 32gb ssd as standard.

I think it will be the same price it is today, although after each refresh you might be able to find the current model for a discount at MacMall (if you can get it shipped to an address in the U.S.) and maybe at the Apple clearance site (not sure if they put old model Macs here or not?).

Yeah they wont lower the price but if on of your relatives is a student at a college he/she may get a discount. Its $100 off the system itself for me. Call and ask.

Yea, as the technology improves, and becomes more widespread, apple will have to lower their prices on the ssd.

That's basically whats pushing it up to 3k right now

Although they don't HAVE to, but they should drop in price, and it'd be smart on apples side to lower the price once they become more mainstream.

I'd see them more likely just upgrading the SSD drive and normal hard drive and keeping it at hte same price.

Then again, if it doesn't hit their sales numbers, they may lower it a tad.

I don't expect any Mac price changes, they rarely happen. Usually, unless there is some sort of update for it, there won't be a sudden price change. If its updated with new hardware or something, then yes, its possible for a price change, but usually it stays the same.

Maybe if the sales really don't meet expectations, they might. But I wouldn't expect it.

Ah, Amazon. Yeah, I was confused, as it seemed like you were talking about Apple directly. Third parties usually have sales, but Apple doesn't.

you know whereever you go, apple products are same price...it like apple has contract with them and they can not sell under a certain price...
i was an inch away to but MBP for 1799 after150 rebate and 50 amazon off and then dell released the m1530...and the waiting started again...

The biggest component of the 3 thousand dollar price tag is the SSD. It is possible and not entirely unlikely that SSD technology will have progressed to a more affordable point by the time July rolls around, so you might see a price drop. Unless of course Apple does with SSD's what they do now with ram. 4gb - 700 dollars, WHAAAAT?
