I just upgraded to 10.6. One of the reasons I simply upgraded was to not lose my account specific settings and application config. I have had persistent problems with my power settings not evoking sleep correctly even back to 10.5.x I used an non-supported utility called NMS or something like that. It doesn't work in 10.6 not surprisingly. So I am willing to byte the bullet by creating a new account and re-setting up. I have done this one other time in 10.5 with great success. However, I simply manually copied my user files and other stuff separately.

If I have to do a manual setup - I may look more seriously at my second options.

So my first option is to see how to create a new login account(easy part) and explore the possibility of some tool to migrate my files and settings across accounts. Can this be done and how?

Next is to start over with a clean install of 10.6 and either re-installing all apps and re-setup. I know this would work but very time intensive.

A variant to the above is clean install 10.6 and the use my Time Machine backup to recover from. Would this accomplish what I want(maybe) or would the TM recovery put me back in the same state I am in now?

What do you guys suggest? Is there a technique or tool to migrate account settings on the same machine? I am anxiously awaiting your answers and ideas.
