Hey![]()
I need to know how to differentiate between this: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MB763LL-AirPort-Extreme-Dual-band/dp/B001UE8LRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247068272&sr=8-1
and this: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MA073LL-AirPort-Extreme-Station/dp/B000MP831G/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_in
and this: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-AirPort-Extreme-Station-MB053LL/dp/B000UZCR56/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_in
They are all Airport Extreme Base Stations with Wireless-N draft, but some features are different.
What would be the difference and how do I tell these routers apart in a store?

Link 1 : This is the newest Airport Extreme currently on the market today. It is what's called a 'Dual Band" Airport Extreme, meaning that it can create two wireless networks. One primary and one guest. It is 802.11n Compatible.
Link 2: This is a basic Airport Extreme that can provide a 802.11n Frequency.
Link 3: This Airport Extreme is much like the one shown in the second link however, this is a Gigabit Airport Extreme meaning, The WAN and the LAN port offer (10/100/1000BaseT) speeds. To where the Airport in Link 2 only offers Ethernet speeds of (10/100BaseT) -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
You have to read the box.
The first (763LL/A) is the new dual-band 2.4/5Ghz version of the APEx with guest networking..... AirSinner is incorrect on the network analysis for this model -- the 763 operates on both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands at the same time providing maximum throughput on both bands regardless of the type of devices (b/g/n) connected, and *also* has the ability to provide a parallel separate network with 2.4/5 access at a guest level. The guest network, when enabled, keeps those users effectively behind a firewall limited to internet access only and then cannot get into the local home network.
The latter two are the previous generation, single band draft-N routers, the only difference between those two being (I believe) the 053LL/A model having Gigabit ethernet and the other just has 10/100 ethernet connections.
If you're running a mixed 802.11g/n network, go with the new dual band model -- every single band 2.4 router made will suffer moderate to serious performance hits when both -g and -n devices are connected at the same time. -
Lol. Wait till he downloads the 7.4.2 firmware update. Then he will suffer.. ha!

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
I hadn't done mine yet, thx for the heads up! -
What? I already downloaded the 7.4.2... I am experiencing no problems.
BTW, I have the 052 version. -
I haven't had any problems either...fingers crossed.
What problems have people been having? -
General weak wireless connection all together. Lots of issues.. many issues that I have to try to fix on a daily basis!! blah!!. However its been not bad so far.

I have the dual band Time Capsule. 7.4.2 is a MUST if you're using a new N router (Airport Extreme or otherwise) from Apple, especially if you use any Aiport Express plugs. Mine would take over half an hour to connect to my router using 7.4.1, and now they take under a minute at 7.4.2.

Guys I bought a mb053 because the salesman told me it was the newest one to date. But now I discovered that it's almost two years old. What should I do? It was way overpriced too... I only bought it because I read all the good reviews about the mb736lla!!
How to differentiate between different versions of Airport Exrtreme
