I have nothing against it except that it's a blemish across an otherwise pretty background.

Do you want to rename it or get rid of it? I'm not sure if you can get rid of it, but you can get something like desktop sweeper to hide away all your desktop icons and then just click on the ones you want to show.

You can unmount the drive using disk utility. That will take it off of the desktop as well as from finder.

That works, except each time you Restart the drive will reappear. A possibly quicker way to do the same thing is to Right-Click and Eject the drive.

And if you want to not see the OS X partition on the Desktop just go to the General tab in Finder --> Preferences and un-check the "Hard disks" box. Unfortunately this option will not remove the Windows partition from your desktop.

If you mean that you don't want it labeled "untitled", you have to change the disk's name in windows. Just go into the properties of the drive.

Yea Xander, I wasn't sure if he could do that or not with an internal hdd, so I just posted what I knew worked for sure.

I might be wrong, but I believe that if you create a Win partition using BootCamp for WinXP and during the installation you specified FAT32, then the 'Untitled HDD' will always appear every time you boot with your OS X. The real solution to this (if you do not intend to have the Win partition to be displayed everytime you boot Mac) is to redo the WinXP setup again with the NTFS option. Since Mac could not read NTFS drives, the Win partition will not be displayed inside OS X. Hope this helps.

As mentioned, log into Windows/Boot Camp, go to Windows Explorer, and rename that drive.

No, you were right about being wrong. :p I've formatted XP under NTFS.

Anyways, lots of great solutions were posted, so thanks to all who helped!

I've read a way to get it off your desktop is go rename it with a "." in front. This will make it a hidden file and shouldn't be displayed.
