Im at school, and I need to connect through a proxy server with a username and password. In system preferences I went to proxy and I put in the proxy server and port there and I also checked the box and put in my username and password but it would never save. Does anyone have any idea why?

Certain apps like Firefox I can put in the proxy settings manually, and then it would prompt me for the password when I open it. However, certain programs like Adium still dont connect at all. I can actually connect with Skype though for some reason.

I searched and found an app called Authoxy, but I played around with it for about an hour and still couldnt get Adium to work, or any other app to work with it.

    Any suggestions?

You're talking about using your University's wireless network, right? Your University has those ports/applications blocked for security reasons. You'll likely need a VPN Client to have full access on the University's wireless network. And even then your bandwidth will be limited. Of course I could be wrong, I'm guessing here. Contact your school's IT Services for more information.

There's probably less restrictions when using the wired network. Still, just contact your school and they'll be able to help you ;).
