I've just purchased the new MacBook Pro and I have a couple of questions that maybe you guys can help me answer. First how can I tell if I have the new LED screen or not? My box specs says 15.4 (diagonal) TFT widescreen display; 1400 x 900 pixels, is this a LED screen or not? Also how can I tell if I have the Santa Rosa platform. I just want to make sure before I open the box and break the seal that I am getting the LED screen and the Santa Rosa platform. Thankyou!

Look at the processor speed...if it's a 2.2 or 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, you have a Santa Rosa one.

when in doubt, ask the OEM... Call apple and see if they can tell you. If their support is anything like Dell, they will have full tech sheets on the systems they sell.

if x = odd number in t7x00 (processor name), and it has an fsb of 800 mhz, it is santa rosa.

Also, if your Macbook Pro came with 2GB and you didn't customize it yourself, then you have the Santa Rosa with LED Macbook. The box should have a sticker that says your Macbook's specfications.

The most obvious indication should be the processor speed listed on the sticker on the box. If its 2.2 GHz, or 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, its a Santa Rosa MacBook Pro. The previous generation of Core 2 Duo had different clock speeds, 2.16 GHz and 2.33 GHz.

Look at the graphics card too. If you have the nvidia 8600M GT, you have the SantaRosa/LED one; if its an ATI Radeon X1600, then you have the older Merom one with CCFL backlighting.

No no no, not correct. The 15" for $2499.00 U.S had 2GB of ram in the previous model. The only way to tell is the processor speed as others have mentioned. The SR notebooks are 2.2 Ghz and 2.4Ghz with an 800Mhz FSB.
