Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new laptop and I've been eyeing the 13" rMBP early 2015 model. I'll be transferring to an art school soon and plan on doing work in illustration and animation. This laptop won't be my primary workstation, as I plan to build a desktop at some point in the next year or so, but I would like the laptop to be able to handle some smaller projects in photoshop and whatever animation (2D) software I'll be using. The macbook pro appeals to me due to it's sleek design and smaller footprint, and I know a lot of creative types use Macs. If anyone has experience in this manner I'd love to hear your impressions, or a recommendation for a similar laptop.
Also I can't buy the 15" MBP as my budget is $1500
thanks for any help!

Apple has abandoned most all the creative pro markets, and the PC workstation is taking over gradually. For a while, the MacBook Pro for non video editing and light Photoshop is decent, and for 2D software is OK. But consider the way things are headed.

Check what your school recommends and what programs they use. Program and hardware parity can come in pretty handy even if you don't end up with the best laptop out there. Also, they may have recommended hardware.

Tijo is correct check on your school. also KentT is correct, after a few decades of Apple for all my work, I am now almost exclusively PC workstations, Adobe CS has been better on windows since version 5.5 onward and I am finding all the good animation packages have gone that way as well especially everything from Autodesk.
as a note I primarily am a broadcast video editor but still do stills, 3D animation and a bit of architecture.
How well does the 13" rMBP handle creative programs?
