When I start up VMware fusion and win7 it pretty much makes my computer un-usable while it loads,(programs become un responsive) witch takes about 10 min. Then after it finally gets into windows it take another 10 min to finish loading, but programs become usable with some lag. The weird thing is, is that it's not even using half of my CPU or all of my RAM. After all that, and it finishes loading it is usable. Anyone else have this problem?

    I'm giving it 2gb of ram, and it's 64bit win 7 RC.

Which version of Fusion are you running? I downloaded a trial version of VMW 3 and installed the 32-bit version of 7 Pro on a uni-17, 2.8. Allocated 1.5GB of RAM to the VM, and aside from terrible battery life, I didnt notice any real problems (only played around with it for a few days though).

I'm using VMware fusion 3, I wonder if it's a bad install of VMware fusion.

Could be - does your whole system slow down even before powering on the VM, or not until the VM starts to load?

I have a copy of Win7 ultimate 64bit I tried throwing on a Fusion 3 virtual machine... it actually runs decently. It doesn't ever make my system unusable, even when starting up... only gave it 1.25GB of ram though.... I'm also on a late 2008 unibody 15"er.

Did you install VMware tools? maybe its some Fusion+Win7RC bug and you need to get release version?

I only gave 1gb of memory in VMWare as well. I think because you're giving 2, that's the problem.

Could be the RAM allocated as well. How many processors do you have working for the VM, 1 or 2?

gave it 2gb ram + 1cpu.....works absolutely fine, snappier than the previous version...only after i've disabled aero.....aero uses lots of resources and makes it a bit laggy on the 9400m.

I'm using Fusion 3.0 + Win7 Ultimate x64 with 2GB ram and 1 core allocated. It takes about 2 minutes to start-up the VM during which time my overall system is slow, but not unusable as you seem to be experiencing. Once it finishes booting/loading it seems to be normal usage to me. I have 4GB ram in my MBP and with the 2GB allocated to the VM I usually have ~500-800MB free.

I'll try allocating less memory tonight and see if it appears to speed up the loading of the VM.

I'm using Fusion 2.0 with Win 7 (32 bit), giving it two processors and 2 gig of ram (MB has 4 gig total), and it works just fine. Runs almost as fast as the Mac OS.

Takes about 20 seconds to boot, which is a hellavalot quicker than my wife's brands new Dell Pentium dual core with 4 gig of ram.

The only problem I have is that the mouse loses focus within the VM (clicking ceases to function), and I have to run the mouse to the top of the screen thereby activating the Fusion title bar and then hit the escape key, every couple of minutes, to return mouse clickability. I figured that I just need to upgrade to fusion 3. But after seeing the problems you guys are having with Version 3, I may re-think that plan.

VW3 is working well for me...

Aero really slows down the virtual machine... try not using that.

I turned off Aero. Started VMware, went upstairs brushed my teeth and came back and it was already booted. :D I wouldn't think Aero would effect the start up :| but what ever. Thanks guys.

Fusion 3 with Win 7 - works great. Better even than Fusion 2 with XP.

Hi guys, I am running 6GB ram on my mackbook pro. I just bought Fusion 3 and was going to set aside 3GB for Windows 7. It seems like people are having better performance using less than 2GB for windows. Would using 3GB for windows make the performance worse? Thanks

if your using 64bit version, the 3gb would actually be nice because the 32bit windows cannot exceed 3gb...

Unless you are using memory hungry applications under Windows 7, it won't make any difference.
