    That's really odd.
It shipped with Tiger or no OS at all?

Well, depending on how you are installing Leopard let me be the first to say that you will get the best results if you do an erase of Tiger and reformat and install of Leopard rather than just hitting the upgrade button.
People are getting mixed results choosing the upgrade option. You could however have great results with the upgrade option if you have done nothing with your MBP including installing any new apps or software updates.
Also erase, reformat and install will give you options to choose remove many of those useless languages and extra printer drivers you won't be using, this way you can free up hard drive space.
Another suggestion, after the install IF your Mac feels a bit slow check out the Spotlight icon up top right and look for a glowing dot in the middle of the magnifying glass. If it's glowing then that means Spotlight is indexing and that could take quite a while. Your Mac will be usable but much slower.

Once you plug in your iPod it will automatically format to run on your Mac, of course as it should since it's from Apple. :) Here's the thing, you will lose your songs on the iPod because you can't just format your iPod and keep the songs on it. You may want to backup your music from your PC or transfer it directly to your new Mac.

Okay, thanks so much hldan. I will work on that tommarrow. I've just done a ton of updates, but i checked the forum a bit to late and installed lepoard without uninstalling tiger. Can I still do that now? And I have a msn e-mail. How do I make a Mail account on my mac? Anything else i should do? I will calibrate my battery tonight.

Apple's mail works with many email accounts however I am sorry, I don't know about MSN. You can still do an erase and install. Just pop in your Leopard disc and when the install screen comes up just hit the "options" button and the option to erase and install is there. Following that check out the "customize" button and select only the print drivers you will be using and deselect all those extra languages. All of this will save you a lot of hard drive space.
Some people are getting decent results from an upgrade and many others have problems because some of Tigers files are blending with Leopards so it's recommended to erase and install. Good luck and merry xmas.

When I go to garageband and try to listen to a beat it says i can't listen to it because I don't have the software. I haven't installed the two other CD roms that came with it....What are in those? Because my MBP came with tiger, then I installed leopard ( i will uninstall tiger later on) but what should I do with the other disks? And I also have to install word....We are waiting on the mail account, because we are very confused!

If your going to reformat don't install Office yet.
Wait, you must have done a format since it appears iLife isn't installed.
One of those disk should be your iLife disk. Install it.

iLife tends to disappear after a Leopard install regardless how the install was done. The second disc is for the bundled apps such as iLife. You must first use the disc 1 to choose the option to install the bundled software, then it will spit the disc out and ask for disc two to start the install.

My friends just bought a 20" iMac last week from the Apple Store at the Mall of America, and it came with Tiger preinstalled, so they had to install Leopard from the upgrade disc. I find that quite odd. You'd think Apple would have sold through the older stock?

haha, i just got my MBP today and holy s*** they are a pain in the butt to set up. But i must say they are totally worth it once you have it setup. Someone should create a guide if someone hasnt yet which i doubt.

Hopefully you are just joking, when you turn on your new Mac for the first time the setup assistant is so easy it's foolproof. Generally from start to desktop is within 5 minutes and you are on the web if you have wireless. Sorry it didn't work out as well for you.

big mac, bada boom! big bada boom!

i highly recommend taking a look at the guides Sam has setup on the top section of the Apple forum, as well as just looking at Apple's own support site. OS X is a very intuitive system to learn, so don't be afraid to just learn from experience, it is always good to learn all the basic stuff on your own from your own experience, and then get lots of help with the stuff that is a little more complicated.

good luck, and enjoy your MacBoom! Apple's latest venture into the nuclear arms industry.

:p Thank you macboomers...i Chat just quit unexpectedly, but I sippose no computer is perfect? Just wondering if there is a speciphic reason. Loving the keyboard! And the thin, sexyness of it! I have started burning disks from my PC...Got most of the pictures down, but my ancient HP is haveing trouble with that. We will figure it out. Still haven't tackled mail, do we need a .mac thing for that?

you don't need a .mac account for Mail, but you do need an account that supports a specific type of mail transfer system, what that one is, I can't tell you, but it should be laid out in the Mail help or Apple's support site.

I don't believe MSN accounts are compatible but I could be wrong, I know it is a painful experience, but like I recommend to many people, slowly making a switch to gmail is highly recommended. I think that google has provided an even better system than mail or any other email software all built into a site.

nice to see someone else with a 6x11 Wacom! best tablet and tablet size ever, and it works flawlessly on the Mac platform, once you have installed the drivers, all its settings can simply be accessed through System Preferences.

I love my tablet! I use mine for photoshop sketches, airbrushing etc. You?

I have gotten all of my purchased songs on my mac. But we are having a lot of trouble with getting my normal CD songs into my library. We burned them onto a disk and put it into my mac, but it loads into itunes as track one track two etc. The real names and artists are on my PC. What should we do?

do you have iTunes on your PC set to organize your files? if you do, there should be a folder named iTunes in your my music folder on the pc, if you just copy that entire folder, which includes all your music, playlists, etc. to your music folder on your mac. which will be at Macintosh HD/Users/"yourusername"/Music

you can just delete the original iTunes folder in Music, and copy over the entire iTunes folder from the PC to take its place, when you launch iTunes again, it should now have all the songs, playlists, etc. of your PC iTunes library.

if it does not, you can then quit iTunes again, press and hold the alt/option key while opening the app, and then choose the iTunes library you want.

this is the simplest way that I know of, if you have a external HDD or iPod etc. big enough to hold your music.

if you don't have a device big enough to hold all of your music, your entire iTunes folder from your PC, you can also connect the two via your network.

i can go into more specifics if needed, good luck. make sure to check out this article also: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173

I use my Wacom for basically everything, illustration, animation, editing, you name it.

I miss not having any photoshop to mess around with. I feel lost on my new mac :( I do love it though

    TO ALL WINDOWS USERS:
The switch is really not hard. The key: Get a external harddrive. Sure, you can get fustrated because the right click and things aren't like they 'should' be. But its worth it. Most times you are just over thinking it, because the Os is so simple and elegant. XP seems as ugly as heck. Make the switch, you'l be so happy.

Also, I am wondering the cheapest place to get photoshop, just photoshop, not cs3. I can get a educational dscount. Is it possible to get it for under $150?

You could try eBay...are you looking at Photoshop Elements? That'll definitely be cheaper. Other than that, its hard...Photoshop CS3 is $300 on Adobe with Educational Discount.

Well, photoshop cs3 would be better, because I have elements 4 (came with wacom) We will install the wacom and PS tommarrow, and see how i can do with it. If not then I'll have a look around, and fork up the $300. Thanks everyone
