I figured out part of the MBP WWDC rumor fiasco, seriously.

I had a thought experiment, and ultimately I figured out, in part, the fate of the macbook pro and WWDC.

The mbp's are not going to actually be released at WWDC, but they will be announced. They are going to start taking orders for about 2 weeks (maybe 3) after WWDC and then ship/release their new product.

    How do I know this?

Because the ati hd2600 does audio, 5.1 high quality surround sound.

    and it decodes h.264 1080p.

and its not going to be ready for a few weeks yet.

These may be a simple, seemingly obscure facts, but Apple knows its user base and it knows that mbp user base buys apple products because we need high quality audio/video to create content. What better way to appeal to that interest than to create newer, better, brighter LED lit screens, release the newest graphics card that can handle both audio and video while leaving the processor free to keep the system running smoothly?

Isn't this what we want? A system that can handle 1080p and high quality audio without scratching processor resources?

    Apple is going to deliver.

    In july.

    Be prepared.

you didn't figure anything out, sorry to say, this is the same type of speculation that has been going on forever.

should they release it at WWDC, yes, if they can, will they, who bloody knows? that is all it comes down to.

speculation doesn't really help anyone. :(

How do you know they're going to stay with ATI graphics card? Wasn't there rumors about the MBP using Nvidia cards instead?

IIRC the 8600 also decodes H.264 too.... very well infact. keeps the CPU time down below 20%
    http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2977

you cant have the gpu totally take all the work from the CPU, the CPU stil has to do some work...issuing orders etc. but i dont think ATi will be able to best that, only match it.

now the next thing of course is the ability to handle audio. im not entirely sure what this entails, but i know none of the HD2900XT's make use of it. it would be possible to route audio to the HDMI out on a Nvidia 8600 but i know for definate the sound would be processed elsewhere. ATi's sound processing hasnt really been tested yet so who knows if its any good.

one thing i think is right is the UVD on ATi's chips is also able to accelerate other stuff like divx i think, nvidias cannot.

ATi havent been very good with power draw and heat production lately so i wouldnt put too much faith in that area either. x1700 never got its software sorted to manage power properly, R600 is a hot mother...

basically, if apple are doing as you think..... i think the HD2600's only ace card is the capability to supposedly process audio...and at the moment that is an unkown quantity.

Nvidia offer pretty much all the same stuff except audio processing, with the added bonus that theyre already shipping. audio can easily be routed through the HDMI port if needs warrant.

here's to hoping they toss in an updated (and fast- gt or xt) video card from either amd or nvidia.
