I just purchased a $999 base macbook through the apple online store. I'm excited to recieve it! :D
Just a question though. Do they process and ship orders on the weekend? I'm still waiting to recieve an email confirmation of my order.
After mulling it over for months, going back and forth, not able to decide which model would be right for me (white, black refurb or clearance, or the recently released aluminum), I decided the white should be good enough specs wise. I can't wait! I'll be a first time mac user. :D

I'm pretty sure they do, as I've ordered numerous things from the Apple on line store (most shipping from Asia) and many times I've been surprised how fast they got here to the States. Also, with time changes, it "could" be Friday or Monday there...don't know for sure. I ordered mine on a Thursday evening and FedEx attempted delivery the following Monday at 9am, so it moved all through the weekend...

It's saturday morning here. :) But the order page said expected delivery nov 4-7, so I don't know. :)

EDIT: I just spoke to apple, they only process and ship orders on the weekdays. :( So guess I'll have to live with this clunky desktop a couple more days. :D

Mine shipped from China last Friday (missed fed ex pickup on Friday!!), and was at my front door (east coast) 8:20am Monday morning. This thing went from China to Alaska to NJ to MD Saturday and Sunday. :D

Well, for one, I'm very weary of getting a revision A product, especially with the issues the first batch of aluminum macbook/pro's have been having. Although I'm glad some here have reported perfect systems, I'm leaving to go overseas in 3 months and don't want to take any chances while I'm gone.
Second, since I don't really game much any more (and the games I play are atleast 5 years old), a modest system like the white macbook would be perfect for me. :) Since the white macbook is at what, revision F? :)p), I feel more comfortable having a system with the kinks more worked out. The only thing that concerns me is the palmwrest crack issue, but I'll be sure to get applecare by the end of the first year. :)

I'm glad you're happy with your new notebook.

I'm also having a hard time figuring out why you didn't save some coin by going through the refurbished store. IMO, I couldn't justify spending 1K on old tech considering what's out there right now.
While I understand your trepidation towards the newer aluminum macs, I just don't see the value in your purchase.

Well, I've heard the apple refurbs are really good, but I'm very weary of spending a lot of money on used electronic equipment, even though the warranty is still the same. Maybe it's a flaw. :p
But actually, those specs are all I really need. Technically, I saved money by buying new, you can get a 4gb kit for around $40. That's $1039 (including new white macbook for $999), versus $1049 for a white refurb (super drive is a must) or $1099 for a black refurb. ;) With either refurb I'd get a 4gb kit anyway, so that's an extra ~$40.

I bought mine for one reason. Firewire in the refurbed 13inch...not available on newer 13inch models...

Yeah, the removal of firewire really surprised me. Although you could make the argument that most people who need firewire would be buying pros anyway.

Its unfortunate though, certainly wouldn't hurt to have it. Now, any film industry people who want Firewire on-site have to use a MBP, which may be a bit inconvenient as its heavier and larger.

the macbooks were never that viable of a film option anyway, the screens just aren't up to part compared to the MBP, not to mention the resolution.

Hey I have a question. I thought all the macbooks/pros/airs shipped from china??
I just checked the tracking info, it says "Package data transmitted to FedEx" at 11am this morning, then I just got an update, it was picked up in Bloomington, CA.
Mind you, I ordered this saturday morning, but I didn't even get a shipped notice from apple until this morning. So did it originate from california, or china? Since it's new, I would have thought china.

They're all made in China, I think shipped out from Shanghai and I guess they could arrive at California first. But first and foremost it should be in China.

Hmm that's strange then. Unless they actually shipped it from china during the weekend, and apple didn't update the info then. But it did say since saturday, "prepared for shipment" like 3 hours after I placed the order.

I contacted apple about it (out of curiousity more than anything), and they said they have warehouses in the US too. I wonder if I'm getting an unopened return or something.

i think they initially started shipping from China to cater for early orders and etc.. they must have some sort of warehouse in the US so they can supply the stores, and thats probably where yours came from
