    2.4 ghz
    4 gigs of ram
    everything else standard for now.

What are some of the things I should set up 1st? I know I need to calibrate the screen and battary and stuff, but is that all? Also, what games run well on bootcamp? I was hoping to run LOTR Battle for middle earth.

Thanks for all who help me, now i'm off to buy my mac :D

DONT BUY THE 4GB OF RAM FROM APPLE! NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO! THAT IS THE ONE THING YOU NEED NOT DO! Ram is the easiest thing in the world to install yourself , don't pay the extra few hundred for them to unscrew something and click in the RAM. Seriously man, that is my best advice.

Do Not Buy RAM From APPLE. Upgrade yourself. It will not Void your Warranty

Is Futureshop installing the RAM or are they selling you a machine where Apple has preinstalled the RAM? Apple spanks users who buy RAM by charging them 4 to 8 times what it is worth. It's best to buy the machine stock then pay a visit to Crucial and order your RAM separately.

I'm not sure. The black one is 2 gbs standard with the option to expand to 4, so I dunno. My stepdad knows everything about computers, so he'll know if I can get cheaper ram. I also get a collage discount. I get iWork and the Airporty Express plug thing for free.

Why? It's $35 for a 2GB stick there.... $40 on New Egg. Corsair ones.

Because generally speaking, Future Shop is more expensive than other places. If they're offering it at a decent price then great, but I personally always compare their prices before buying from them.

order your RAM from either newegg.com or crucial.com, retail stores are a rip off, especially the grade of RAM that can be had for the same price or if not cheaper.

I personally order from crucial.com for notebooks, otherwise for my mac pro I always use transintl.com.

I have it! It's insane. It's really fast and stable. I just have one question. The first thing I did was charge it to full while using it (The apple guide says it's fine) I got it to full and left it for a few hours. I am using it unplugged now and the battery has lasted a while When I let it die and charge it full again, should I have any problems>

I'm very happy with my whitebook. It's been almost 6 months now and I'm still delighted. There have been a couple of glitches but overall I'm very happy. This weekend, I went and took a long look at Office 2008 versus iWork over at the Apple store. Later, I found out that Office 2008 is also available at Office Depot, Staples and Best Buy. Looks like Mac isn't some little niche market any more. The lowest price I found was $139 but we held off. I've got neooffice and iwork on everybody's systems right now and I'm hoping that's good enough. My wife has a treasurer's report spreadsheet to deal with and we opened it in neooffice and it worked just fine. It looks like I don't have to send any money up to MS after all.

You mention fast and stable. The stable part is really because OS X has unix underneath. It's not perfect but it left windows in the dust. I know there are some Windows fans out there who think that Windows is just as stable. Arguably, they aren't that far off the mark. All 3 "major OS" options are now running what is called a "protected kernel". This means applications cannot get out of line and clobber main memory. But drivers can. Apple's drivers are written by the same guys that wrote the OS. Windows drivers are written by somebody up 20 hours drinking Jolt. I'll take OS X any day.

Then there's the topic of fast. I have several copies of XP pro to deal with. On my work machine, there are prolonged freezes. These happen when I log on, when I launch email and whenever I touch anything that deals with MS Office 2007. It's a pathetic computing environment and makes me appreciate my Mac even more. Tonight, I was restoring some files we forgot to get off my wife's old XP Pro machine. Avg decided it was time to download 23 updates. Windows Update decided it was time to download 23 more updates. What suckage. I sat there looking at partially drawn empty windows for a good 90 seconds and waiting in vain for my "cancel" clicks to register. Yes, this sort of thing can happen in OS X. It is possible for OS X to get "busy". It just doesn't happen as often (monthly?) as it does in windows (hourly!).

    Anyway, enjoy your new blackbook!

    Thanks, I plan to :)

Another question, I have the mocha vnc light program on my ipod touch from the appstore. It requires apple remote desktop and says it's included in os x but I can't seem to find it. Any help on this?
