    Does the 2011 macbook pro 15 have an IPS screen? It is important to me because I do web designing and colors are a critical factor.

    Unfortunately it does not. Only the iMac and Cinema Display have an IPS panel.

    as HLdan said they do not, all models use a 6 bit TN panel from various manufacturers. calbrated with a spyder you are looking at 61-70% gamut

    for color crit applications you would need an external screen or something a bit different

    Its a very good display though, better than most pc laptops imho. Great horizontal viewing angles, vertical not that great.
