Hello I was thinking about buying an ibook mainly for watching movies and listening to music, because I prefer a matte laptop. But I just wondered if it's true that apple has the best tft screen on its laptops for viewing media?
All the other specs are not very important to me, as long as I can multitask between lot of webpages ( I wont use video/pic rendering or any of that kind). Will 1 gb be enough on ram?

Also its important for me to be able to adjust the brightness, to lower ... (is that possible?)

Or maybe if you know an other alternative which you think is better, I would like to know your opinion...

What's your budget? Please fill out the FAQ for better recommendations.

And, for the tasks you mention, 1GB RAM will be sufficient.

Budget would help greatly. I do like the Apple's screens, but I am sure there are other manufacturers with at least as good screens. Fujitsu and Sony come to mind. Front Row is a nice interface for viewing media, but so is Windows Media Center which is more capable. If you are looking for a cheap reasonably specced notebook, I think a G4 iBook could suit well.

I don't think the iBook screens are really comparable to newer laptops out there (although certainly if matte is a requirement, it does limit your options).

I'd be a bit concerned about the overall performance/slowness of an iBook compared to newer machines as well.

Are you completely against a glossy screen? it would open up your options a lot more, and it's actually probably pretty good if movie viewing is one of your main uses, as you should get brighter/richer colors. Watching dvd's on an iBook can be unpleasant and can seem more washed out, etc.

I'm pretty sure Front Row wouldn't be available on an iBook.

If you want dual-layer dvd burning, you'll need to get an upgraded drive:

    http://www.mcetech.com/ibg4dvdr8dl.html

At that point, you might as well buy a used MacBook (even with a glossy screen).

I still really would recommend considering a notebook with a glossy screen, especially if movie viewing is a primary use.
