Windows running on a Mac or Mac OS X on a generic PC?
Read this on Slashdot and thought it was an interesting idea for a poll.![]()

I would rather run Mac OS on regular non-Apple hardware.
-
OS X on non-Apple hardware. That would mean I could install it on my current computer (legally).
Of course, that would mean that OS X would lose its exclusivity and would likely become less polished and more like Windows or Linux. -
^^^^exactly, and that is exactly why Apple will not be doing it any time soon if not never. They are a completely exclusive company in terms of what they actually offer to the industry, why would they want to give that up?
-
Also Mac on x86 hardware works really badly and there are heaps of driver compatibility.
-
I cannot live without Windows. My primary system is an iMac with WinXP, so that should tell you which I picked.

Why would I have to be forced?
I picked the PC system with MacOS, because PC systems have more variety and faster components, in general. -
i would go for Xp windows over mac ironically running on apple hardware
but if its on apple hardware i would have OS X too and would therefore have a taste of both worlds so i wouldn't regret my decision -
I will go for Windows and a Computer Case Modded to look like an Apple casing

Can you add another choice like
*I think I just threw up in my mouth a little*
That's my vote, neither. I'll opt to go with out computers -
Can't live without my games, so there is only one option

Apple believes a lot in software just as Microsoft does. However, Apple also believes if you truly love software, you need to get into hardware as well so that the final product is as coherent as possible.
Microsoft believes in decoupling software and hardware to increase volume by trusting its partners to bring PC at a price that everybody can afford. -
you could already run windows xp on a mac though....
-
I say Windows on a Mac. For one part of OS X appeal is its sturdiness which is due in large part to Apples closed system. Also, there is more value in running Windows on Mac than OS X on a PC. Most use Windows out of necessity while most OS X users are there by choice.
-
I would definitely opt for OSX on a normal PC. My ideal laptop would probably be something like the XPS 1330 running OSX.
-
OS X on a PC would be better. If that happened, apple would gain tons of market share. Imagine Dell having the option to preinstall OS X? They even hinted at this recently, if Mr. Jobs would allow -- they're already shipping linux boxes.

does the poll imply that both would work properly?
windows works very well on macs. osx works very well on macs. its because the hardware is very consistent and apple can easily write software to take advantage of a controlled hardware set.
windows on a mix-and-match pc usually works well. not always. sometimes there are freaking driver compatibility issues. a lot of times there will be bugs that you will have to spend 30 minutes to an hour+ working on because writing software that is supposed to cover almost every piece of hardware known to man is very very difficult, time consuming, and costly.
the same problems would arise in os x if it were open to hardware. suddenly, software vendors would have to support a massive influx of hardware. it would be horrible. its why osx86 is only a small underground market, and not an exploding underground phenomenon.
so i would pick windows on mac hardware. because we buy macs for the hardware consistency. that is why the special phrase "it just works" is so meaningful. everyone is running software on the same hardware- problems get fixed faster, patches work for everyone, etc.
i think windows works better on my mbp than it did on any machine i had prior. not just faster. better. its because of driver support. rock on.
If forced to, which would you rather have...
