Would you have bought a Mac? With the growing number of Apple's customer base just curious about how many people are really interested in the Mac OS as their primary OS and not just the pretty hardware?

i'd still buy it. i barely use my parallels/boot camp partition as it is.
-
I bought MS Office Special Media Edition for the Mac.
However, I don't need Windows for anything, anymore. -
I use windows for gaming, If I didn't have windows I would just game on my xbox. I wish i didn't have to use windows at all, it's just a pile of frustrating crap.
-
I would have still opted for the MBP without a doubt. I use Vista for running AutoCAD, which in itself has more to do with legacy (i have a lot of past work that is drawn on that platform). However, I am really falling for OS X and all my other creative programmes run native on it. The MBP gives you the best of both worlds: that kind of open minded product development was a breathe of fresh air to me...

OneNote 2007.
There's a serious chance that I wouldn't have bought Mac. -
-
The reason I got a Mac because one of my good mates got a Mac and he gave it a strongly recommendation.
The reson he got a Mac was because he heard that Macs could run Windows, and therefore he could switch without worrying.
Hence, my mate would most likely not have got a Mac at that time if Macs did not support Windows, and I would also not have got a Mac as a result.
Allowing Windows to run on Mac was a very good step for Apple. It basically eliminated the fear people had that they would be wasting their money if they did not like, or could not get things done, on OS X. -
I only use XP in college cos the IT folk here said I wouldn't be able to use the college internet using OS X. Apart form that I never use my XP partition. And I've only realized how much windows really bugs me since I started using OS X.
However, I did get my Macbook through an allowance in my college grant so technically it was free. And if this wasn't the case I don't think I would have had the cash to splurge on a Macbook and would have most likely settled for a windows laptop. -
I switched to a MBP to escape Windows, so it wouldn't matter to me.
-
nope, i play games now and then..
-
it was curiosity that made me get a mac. I already have a windows desktop, so it didn't matter to me. I originally thought about installing win 7 via bootcamp and I've already downloaded the beta, but why waste space? os x does everything I need it to do and all my games are on the desktop, so no need for windows.
-
I probably wouldnt even though I dont have Windows on the Mac anymore.
-
Yes I would still buy mine
-
I started out with a necessity to use windows programs and also the curiosity to see this "Mac" experience since going to Intel.
I was also a heavy windows user.
This has all changed with the purchase of my first MBP. I have now replaced all but two windows programs with Mac compatible ones. I am impressed enough to date that when these are released, I will never look back !!!!!! ----- well, not in any near future at this juncture. -
No. Both have their pros and cons and if I did not have the ability to use Windows on a Mac AND I did not have a windows based PC, I would not consider buying one.
-
I have found that I no longer use Windows, except at work. The MBP does everything I need...and even runs the games I am interested in well enough to forego the need to keep Windows on Bootcamp. So I can say I am a 100% Mac convert, having purchased my first ever Mac with the release of the late 2008 MBPs.
And now that I have, I am not sure I would ever mess with Windows again, unless they continue down their path of copying everything from Mac =P ... the question is can they get their software to perform expertly like OS X after they finish plagerizing all the names... -
For me, as much as I liked apple's hardware aesthetics and having heard great things about OSX from friends I was still hesitant to get a mac. Being able to run windows put me at ease about my purchase.
But now that I've got a mac, I really find no need for Windows at all. In fact I had XP and then Vista installed through Bootcamp and I have now removed them because everything I did in Windows I can easily do in OSX. I have found a mac equivalent to all my programs (except MSN Messenger; the mac version lacks audio/video chat) and they all work as good as, and in many cases better than their windows counterparts.
Being able to run windows was apple's Trojan horse which allowed them to capture many frustrated and/or curious windows users. -
i love the fact that i have best of both worlds ..as an avid windows user..having windows on my mac is cushioning the transition for me ..its like i left home but home is still dear to my heart even though I'm miles away into OSX. Plus it keeps reminding me how much of an Ultimate machine i have

While I've mostly been Windows user until a couple of years ago, I'd periodically try a mac to see if it did all the things I needed it to do.
While Macs have always been pretty good at what they do, it was not until a couple of years ago with the transition to the INTEL platform that I was able to find software and hardware that did everything I had been able to do on a PC.
Being able to run the occasional Windows app on a VM was a nice bonus but I would have gotten a Mac anyway. Its been a great couple of years and while I occasionally have to do a couple of very specific things in Windows for work, I could get around it if I had to. -
I knew before even clicking into this thread, what the question was.
I hardly ever touch windows these days. With OS X, I like the fact that I can install it, and there's not much at all to configure to get it to my liking. I like an operating system that just works without having to tinker, or hack files, or install a bunch of drivers and programs. If I feel adventurous, I'll install a linux distro from time to time.If I miss my games, I have windows to fall back on, but I haven't even touched it for a few weeks now.
So I'd have to vote yes on this poll.
-
of course. why not?
-
-
Haha, I know what you mean, jk. -
I said yes for two reasons. First, I still don't have Windows on my Mac (I did have the Win7 beta before I replaced the hard drive, but I rarely used it). Second was that I already had my M90 for Windows and all my engineering applications of which I have no OS X version.
However, had I not already had the M90, I wouldn't have bought a Mac. In fact, I was seriously wanting to get a Mac back when I got the M90, but you couldn't run Windows on them back then (early 2006 before BootCamp), so I didn't get one. -
I actually stopped using Windows on my Mac all together.
I bought a PS3 and I'm doing all my gaming on that.
So to answer the question, yes I would still buy a Mac even if there were no way to put windows on it. I'm sick of Windows. -

I first used OSX when I got my MBP. At the time I was thinking that OSX was just something I could have fun with and would always have Windows to fall back to. So at the time of purchase, yes I would have bought a different laptop if I couldn't have Windows. However, in hindsight, I havn't booted into Windows for over a year (with the exception of messing around with Windows 7 on a virtual machine for a few minutes and installing Windows XP for a day for a mini LAN party with friends). I don't really need Windows...

Depend on the situation:
1/The answer is NO, if that is my primary system,
2/The answer is YES, if that is my secondary system.
Sorry I could not stay away from Windows, because they have so many great software and compatibility with updated hardware.
-
but I would have bought it if I didn't have Windows!
-
Although I love the Mac OS, it would not have been practical for me to purchase a Mac without the option to also run Windows since many Rx and PMR programs that I require are Windows only.
-
Absolutely not. I have lots of technical software that doesn't run in Mac OS. Apple is already holding me by not providing native support for Blu-ray but that's a different discussion.
If there was no way to run Windows on a Mac....
