I recently found I don't have a Firewire port on my Desktop pc becuase I have a custom case... so I am trying to use IMovieHD on my Macbook to import my video but whenever I set it all up and click import it just says camera playing with a blue screen... the camcorder plays but it doesn't import anything... what's going on! I have had problems like this with Macs forever and I'm getting a wee bit frustrated at this point

Why not just buy a express card firewire card for your alienware card, import the video on your AW laptop then return the card for a full refund. LOL

I don't have my Alienware M17x yet... but it has built in firewire... I am trying to use my Macs right now my family has a Desktop G5 and a Mackbook pro and neither of them work properly with video...

Maybe it's the camcorder? Is the format correct? I've never used ImovieHD, If the format is correct are you sure everything is setup correctly with ImovieHD to accept it?
EDIT: Here's a few solution sites I found,

Searching around the net I can't really find anything your issue, a lot of sound sync problems but no blue screening, a lot of incompatibility issues.

Issue solved and confirmed by 3 others. -
your trying to import videos stored on the camera? Sounds like you set it up to record from the camera into iMovie... maybe try importing the videos (like with Image Capture) and then import the videos on the machine into iMovie.
ImovieHD won't let my import my video!
