I d/loaded a scientific paper about 10 pages with mixed tabkes/images (X-ray pics) etc as a pdf document - problem is that while text and number tables are OK one of the images is incomplete - about 80% missing (blank) - is this due to MB po0r graphics card and if I had a MBP would this be better in that I get everything on d/load ?
This is important to me as I need to d/load complete papers and not have bits of images missing - I have blackbook with 2GB RAM (also happened toe same with 1GB RAM before upgrading to 2 MB) Please advise as I'll get MBP if that solves it for me.
I could previously d/load everything OK on a sony Vaio SZ4 OK (it did have Adobe Acrobat Std )

The integrated graphics card of the MacBook will not affect the rendering of images on a PDF. I have no idea why this would happen, but its not a MacBook problem, so don't be so concerned just yet.
Is it just that PDF that will not display images? Try downloading another file that was previously okay on the Sony VAIO. -
Hi Sam- thanks for fast reply - No I can display pdf images O it's just that this one paper I tried to D/load which had six or seven X-ray (black & white) simple images and two did not completly dsplay o new MB yet on a Sony Vaio they all displayed OK - as sony has a graphics card similar to the MBP I thought maybe it was due to that -This is a feature I need in my line of work and I would be prepared to get MBP if it ws the answer even though I have an overall preference for MB instead

Well, I'll answer this: a MacBook Pro will not help in rendering PDF images.
So you tried that same file on the VAIO and all the images displayed fine while it did not on the MacBook? I ask this because I want to make sure its not something wrong with the PDF.
It could be a loading issue...did you wait for all the images to load? If not try using Adobe's Acrobat for Mac to open the PDF (I assume you're using the default, Apple's Preview). -
Did you try and download the PDF again? It could've been a corrupted download and would have not finished downloading all the pages.
-
Thanks again - I use the Apple preview for viewing but I'll try out the Acrobat Reader and let you know.
-
Yes I tried d/loading it several times - hopefully using the Acrobat Reader rather than Preview may be OK - I mainly want t be reassured that y=the failure to display fully the image in the pdf is not due to the 64MB video RAM in the MB as if it is not then I'll stick with the MB rathr than get a MBP, as I need to d/load fully documents in pdf as part of my work / research (healthcare)

can you post the file or link here?
You might have run into a file that either have some bug that only shows up in Apple Preview, or a bug in Preview itself. But rest assured it has nothing to do with the capacity of the Macbook to display PDFs in general. I'd say that probably the application that created the PDF doesn't follow the specs completely. -
Hi ARC,
I got your email and looked at the PDF. The first images (the left side images) displayed fine, but like you, I only got about 10-20% of the image on the right side. I was using Preview, as I don't have Acrobat on this MB. So I'm guessing it has something to do with the download itself, but rest assured that the MacBook is not what's causing this, and a MacBook Pro won't fix it. -

send me the pdf if you want, i have adobe acrobat professional that came with photoshop. pdf files are great because *supposedly* they will show perfectly on any system. i use pdf's for most everything i want to send out (for viewing / printing).
acrobat reader will hopefully solve your problem, just so the software you are using is a little more consistent (although i don't use preview now, i have never had a problem with preview in the past) -
If I got Acrobat professional or standard maybe it would sort it ? I didn't know that acobrat prof was included in Photoshop - which version is best for MB ?

thats what i meant.
anyway, adobe reader should absolutely work properly to read the file.
let me know if it works. -
Thanks to everyone - Acrobat Reader 8.1 opens all the images perfectly and is exactly what I needed - I'm keeping the MB and forgetting about MBP.
Solved ! -

good. a macbook pro would have the exact same problem with the preview app (in case you didn't believe all the people who mentioned that before) so im glad you didn't shell out for one.
