I noticed a marked increase in temperatures of my macbook (2.4ghz white) after yesterday's security update. The temps have shot up by around 6-8 degrees. The cpu temp idles around 56 degree centigrade nowhas anyone else noticed the same?

Hmmm... before the update it was running at about 40-43... now it's at 44-45, but I don't think it's related to the update... probably just because the GPU has had time to heat up a little now and warm the inside... Maybe it's just the temperature in your home that got a bit warmer? Or your other components?

Its actually been a bit cooler outside. The temps of other components (memory, northbridge) also seem to have increased in istat pro. Are these temperatures safe? Or should i be concerned?

If you are trying to read CPU temperatures from Penryn processors, I'm pretty sure you shouldn't draw much conclusions. Penryn processors have a different thermal scale that Intel said isn't reliable. It doesn't really effect the processors operation or safety margins, but it's difficult for third-party software to read correct values.

a couple of degrees doesn't matter that much. you are WELL within the safe range. its not related to the security update either. is the laptop on a different surface? if its cooler outside, did that change the way your AC / heating system works on the inside? did you open/close a window? i mean, anything could cause a change of a degree or two. thats like... nothing.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys! I'm no longer worried about the temps
It was probably just normal behavior after all!
