Is apple still treating late 2006 Macbooks as part of the recall for the breaking plastic around the wrist rest area? We only learned about the recall in the last week and it was never a problem though over the last month there is now 3 pieces of plastic that have cracked off (2 where the Little plastic nubs near the camera keep the screen from kitting the keyboard). Will Apple still honor this recall even though were likely a tad late? We never recieved any sort of notification about the recall (and the only reason i heard about it now is i have a macnut friend who lives by apple and asked why we had not sent it in 1-2 years ago).

It was never a recall. They were fixing them if they had the issue but that was it. And why don't you just call them?

I did call them i have an appointment next week. I am just curious if anyone has had or heard of a recent case and what the results they got were.

One more reason to get MBP, though you get scratches easily on the aluminum but it is still sturdy

this happened with macbooks up to 2008 at least. they usually fix it for free. the newer macbooks that have unibody plastic have an issue of the hinge cracking now.

Yeah trust me IF apple fixes this i will buy another one and when i do it will be a MBP even if the lower end one. Apple just has awful awful plastics, never have i had this kind of issue with any of my other several laptops.

Just an update for anyone curious, Apple replaced the entire palm rest/kb at zero cost to me (the macbook was bought aug 2006) so its wayyyy out of warranty. However the hairline cracks near the exhaust on the bottom of the enclosure are not covered out of warranty (for anyone curious).

I thought so too until we had a user bring his 2008 MBP in because the bezel around the screen had cracked in both lower right and left corners (at the very bottom of the screen). The hinges on the screen was loose, and it had a lot of play in it, and I guess that wobble started the bezel to fracture. It was still under warranty and Apple replaced the bezel, so no harm no foul. Was the first the tech that I spoke to had ever heard of the aluminum cracking like that. Wish I had thought to take a picture of it before I sent it in

I guess Apple has started to pull the fast one there as well like what has happened to newer Lenovos.
