Hey,
does anyone know which intel chips are being used in the new 17" Macbook pros released in the last month?
I think they run at 2.66Ghz and 2.93Ghz but I haven't been able to track down the exact Intel numbers (e.g. T9600 or T9800)..

2.66 is maybe a P9600
2.93 is a T9800 for sure
2.80 is a T9600 ( i have this) -

a little off topic..why exactly apple switched over to intel chips
when all they did in the past is to bash intel and brag about their own chips? -
Theyve been using intel chips for years now. I didnt pay attention to macs back then, but it is a major selling point that people can run windows as well as osx. I dont think many people would still have gotten a mac if they couldnt run windows on it. I know I probably wouldn't have.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. The PPC chips ran hot, hot in the little notebook boxes.
2. Apple likely got a better OEM distributor deal through Intel.
3. Better compatibility with more generally available components, again increasing the potential for decreased invoice cost for component purchasing on Apple's industrial production scale. -
Its called marketing.

It's the compatibility 100%...being able to dual boot windows is key. As much as people often bash windows, there are many positives with windows as well and sometimes you need it!

Apple is going to need a little more time to get its new 17-inch MacBook Pro out the door.
