From a software capability point of view there is only one thing I can't do on my iPad which I can do on my MacBook and that is work. Unfortunately my work requires desktop chrome. Everything else I can do on the iPad, with the slightly irrelevant sidenote adding that for me, reliability on the iPad has become a huge issue and that's why it has been relegated from a daily driver to an occasional use Device. -
Like myself, I use my dell for work. I use my ipad for consumption. I would rather edit photos, create videos, websites and more on my dell. But just sitting down writing, watching stuff etc the ipad is fine.

U can't block some "consumer mentality" out there.
Paying the full feature Windows NoteBook price for an IPad, that IPad owner would expect his Pad to work like a Book! -
I think there were always be a decent percentage that will keep the different devices for different purpose approach. There will always be a decent amount of people that think carrying around an extra keyboard / mouse for the ipad is too inconvenient.

Interesting take on the ipad/macbook argument.
