I Just installed the latest patch for OS x.4 (its been out for a little while) and cannot connect to the internet using airport. It detect the network but wont connect to it, telling me the it cannot find PPPoE network. Everything was working fine before the update and still work fine on win xp (where i currently am). I am using a dsl modem connected to a d-link g wireless router with rangebooster if it matters.

How can I get around to fix this?

I have the same issue as well. I just bought MBP and while I can connect to the network and internet by wire, I cannot connect via airport even though I seem to be able to connect to my wireless network.

I also use a DSL modem in bridge mode connecting to a wireless router.

But other than that the laptop is great...

    Haven't had a single problem.

It sounds like you set your wireless to PPPoE which is a big no-no. Make sure under your TCP/IP settings that it's set to use DHCP. Under PPPoE, make sure "Connect using PPPoE" is unchecked.

Also, are you connecting to the router, but not able to access any websites? Or is it not able to connect to the router at all?

Sounds like you may have a MAC address lock, or you need a password.

Did you try to connect from a different account? It may not help in this situation, but it is worth a chance. Also you could try deleting your airport preferences.

I found out that it was trying to connect via a bluetooth modem for whatever reason, and since I don't have one, failed miserably. I flushed that and now airport tell me that it is connected to internet, except that it doesn't work when using anything (safari, firefox, msn, adium) and the network assistant put it back to the original settings (those that dont work) instead of solving it...

    How to fix that?

I have been experiencing the same problem ever since I applied the 10.4.9 combo update. However, I can connect to my friend's router just fine, but it says I am connected to my router, but I can't load any web pages. The problem started right after applying the update.

Any fix yet, or tips to going back to 10.4.8? School's over so I now have time to waste on that :p

I have the same problem with my new macbook and a dlink di524. I was reading around and apparantly it has to do with the new airport update that was installed with 10.4.9. From what I got out of it there is no current fix for it yet. Hopefully someone can tell us otherwise.

The newest security patch will solve this issue, just remove wpa ou wep security and you will be able to connect normally (at least I was).

but then your network won't be secured. I tried all the different security options and found that wpa2 worked with my mac but did not work with PCs and did not work with wpa or wep where the PCs did.

I am using WPA, have been since I got it over a year ago. The only problem was I could not use my 64 random character password, I had to trim it to about half to get it to take in OS X.

Well I removed the security while I downloaded the update... you can put it back afterward and it should work.

Ok this is my situation, back in Canada I was able to connect to my campus's wireless network connection. Here, in Italy my uncle has a Linksys Wireless N router and while I can detect the network, I cant connect to it. I type in the password and click continue but it wont connect. Any ideas? The same thing happened over at my friends house in Canada. I believe his setup was the same Linksys Wireless N router connected to a modem. His ISP is Bell Sympatico...whats going on?? His PC laptop connected fine.
