The portability is the only reason to choose a MB over a MBP. With that said, I would rather by a ThinkPad X-series or similar 12" notebook over the MB.

How do you get it for $200 more between a new high-end MB & base MBP or between a refurb high-end MB & refurb base MBP from the Apple store? Let me know because I'm very interested. :)

The sad thing is that Apple doesn't tell everyone to upgrade to the MBP due to this screen "problem." If you ask them, they'll tell you that it is consumers who choose to go for a MBP because of the "better" screen & that no one force them to. :( Notice that Apple didn't even say anywhere that the MB screens are "inferior" to the MBP. :D

It's likely the difference bwtween a New MB & a refurb MBP.
Personally I would never compare it that way. If someone wants to buy a refurb, that's fine, but I would never say that $200 is a difference between the 2 models since it's not of the same thing.

A refurbished product is a refurbished product no matter how you rephrase it, it's used and could have imperfections and is obviously cheaper than a new one.

Well, that's the thing. "inferior" doesn't mean defective, so Apple has a right to sell them as they are, and they don't need to be blatantly honest about it either. It's up to the consumer to do research or see the difference themselves, to be honest, most users won't even see a difference.

    Very true & I totally agree. :)

Another unfortunate thing about these differences in screen quality between a MB & MBP is that in the current tough economic times, not everyone can afford a MBP over a MB. :( A few hundred dollars may not look like much but every penny counts. :)

for video cards, it is either the people that need it, or not.

for those that needs a video card, 9600 is barely enough(9800, 260m are needed for new flashy games, 3dmax, maya, etc)

somehow i see playable medium details is like driving a porsche with low-friction tires and bronze grade gas, why? what's the point of having dx11,10 when i can't even run a dx9 in full setting?

    -_-'

9400m is a good chip on macbook though, but i think 9600m is only a compromise between burning performance or burning laptop...

for the macbook screen, i am surprised if many people don't notice how poor the panel is, or if they are thinking:"jee, i paid almost double to triple of the other notebooks and this is what i got, imagine how poor those will perform" mentality...
