As i am still waiting for my UMacbook pro 17" to be delivered , I have been going though the Apple Forum, and a problem with the screen flickering , seems to affect a lot of models and a lot of people are angry, is this a serious issue or not.

No its not.
And as your mbp is already on the way, stop stressing about all things that could go wrong with it. You've made the purchase and will have two weeks to test it out for yourself. Save yourself the worry...and the ulcer.

So i can take it to the BANK that their is NO problem with screen flicker.
-
Remember the angry people are the one's that post.
-
Yea, I got my macbook pro and it has the screen flickering but I understand it is probably from the sensor so I just move my screen back a little and it goes away. Unless there is another screen flickering issue going around..
-
Nothing is for sure in this life. Just test it out when you get it, and if there's a problem I'm certain Apple would work with you to get the issue corrected. No worries.
-
I would have thought Apple would simply replace units with the screen flicker?
-
I only get it on super-ekeing minimum brightness in terms of readily visible whole-screen flickering, and not constantly (as far as I can see). It irritates me sometimes but not to a deal-killing level. As for line-pattern flickering, that problem hasn't gone away and as far as I'm concerned, I rarely encounter the specific type of graphics that triggers that issue.
Since it occurs on all of my 17-inchers now purchased / replaced at different times I figure it's a typical Apple 'design feature', i.e. something much less prevalent on the actually premium laptops I have from other makers. -

That`s one design feature they can keep
-
I still don't get any flickering, never did... or my eyes are so bad I can't tell.
-
Tinderbox, stop warring about any "possible" defect
if it turns out to be bad, you can always get replacement

No a company i have an account with, not apple, but they are an authorised reseller, I think they are trying to sell of old stock.
Strange thing is they are trying to sell a last years model 17" uMBP 2.66ghz for £2,329.00 , when i ordered my july 2009 model 2.8ghz 4gb ddr3 500gb hdd 9600m GT for £1850.00 , but as i said it no long shows for sale.

What do you mean £1850/$3000 is the going rate in the UK, probably cheaper if you search, and lots of sites have it in stock.
Below is the model i ordered, just on a different website.
