I am selling my dell Studio 1537, A) to big, B) I dont like it, its heavy, and I really like the way a MBP looks. But is it what I need, my main fuctions would be email, music, pics and home office? Thoughts?

you don't need it, but i believe it would suit you.

What do you suggest then?

Don't buy a computer just based on looks. A MBP would be fine for most of the things you do but office work can be a bit tricky. I've heard that MS Office for the Mac is a bit stripped down. I'm quite happy using iWork but it all depends on what you are required to use by your job. iLife is a great suite of programs that comes with a MBP that I find much easier to use than anything I tried on a PC.

How does iworks compair with MS Word? I don't know much about Iworks? I guess my concern with that is if I wanted to send a Excel sheet or Word Doc. to someone who doesn't have a mac will it work?

It has a the ability to save files in MS Office format but I haven't tried it on everything. I find iWork to be easier to use than Office but opinions vary. If you are serious about getting a Mac I suggest visiting the Apple website since they have videos that explain the differences. You should also check out the sticky posts at the top of the forum here. I see you are also looking at Lenovo and think they are a good company. I bought my son the IdeaPad and it is a pretty nice PC for the money.

yeah I am just not sure what to go with, a apple or lenovo...I have heard more good things about Apple than I have lenovo...so I am not sure...

I've never had problems with MS office for Mac and sending files to Windows users.
By "stripped down" I assume most people are talking about 2 things. First, the mac version of Excel does not support VB macros. These are usually only present in the more complicated spreadsheets. No problem with simple charts and things.
Second, there is no version of the Access database application. Most home users wouldn't use it anyway, but just a consideration if you do. -
I knew somebody would pipe up and explain, thanks claudius753.

NeoOffice for Mac (free download, OpenOffice based) supports Excel Spreadsheets with VB macros.... while MS Office is still better, its helpful for those occasional spreadsheets.
Is a Macbook Pro what I need???
