Or do the side buttons on my Wireless Mighty Mouse not work? ...Or atleast work in the condition that i'm most familiar ie: acting as the back button when browsing the internet...

Well I programmed mine to do the Expose feature to "show desktop" in OS X. I forget the default out of the box but at any rate the do work and they do function even without programming it.

I'm using an app called SteerMouse to map the side buttons to "Command + [" which does the same thing in Safari and Finder.
