Calibrating I can see the supposed usefulness but are there any benefits in registering my MBP?

Isn't it necessary to register for AppleCare?

Registering pairs your name with your serial number for future reference right?

You get a free 6-month subscription to a Mac magazine :D.

But really, there's no drawback to registering either...I'm not sure if its mandatory, but when it comes time for any need for servicing, having your Mac registered will help.

You don't. The warranty on Macs are user-transferable.

I am aware of that. However, my name would still be linked to computer after sale. For instance, I sold my macbook to my friend. He takes it in to get it checked with a Mac Genius a few months later. The Mac Genius says it is registered to a XXX. I tell him that I am XXX, and I sold the macbook to my friend. Understand?

Generally, when you install OS X, you will register it during installation (as long as you can connect to the internet). You can also sign up for the free .Mac trial while doing that.

Isn't that what they mean to say when referring to North America?
    Europe no free stuff....ever.
America rox taxwise I guess. In holland we pay triple tax that is tax on tax which is taxed. :( . On a car we pay in total over 40% tax on top of the sales price.
Sorry I went stray here,..I just hate Dutch tax climate!

Canada's taxes are pretty bad too. Oregon, USA for the win :p. No sales tax, I love shopping in Oregon.
