I was thinking, well i dont really need a 2.0ghc cpu so why not save $200 and settle for the 1.83, then just buy a DVDRW seperately. Is this possible?

I don't believe you can get the ACTUAL superdrive afterwards, it needs to come with it, otherwise you'll have to get one third party that is external.

If there was a possibility of getting it afterwards with Apple, Expect to pay GOOD money for the upgrade and having to send it in or bringing it to an authorized Apple Service center.

http://www.mcetech.com/ has done SuperDrive upgrades for previous Macs (i.e. an 8x DL superdrive for the PowerBook G4 or iBook G4 is $129), so it's possible that they may eventually be able to do something similar for a MacBook. I would say though that if you think you are going to want one, you'll probably save yourself some time and hassle by getting one with a SuperDrive.

Also be aware that it is very difficult to get inside a Mac notebook (at least the portions Apple doesn't want you to touch). I would consider getting the better drive as zadillo stated and save time and headache.

    Thanks for the replies.

Ya thats pretty much the consensus at the Mac store. They only have the black in stock and they are trying to sell me the black over the white LOL. Black is nicer, but not for the $200, when I can spend that towards more ram, or heck even a bigger HD if needed.
