I can obtain and LED screen for a couple hundred bucks, will I be able to swap it with the current LCD in my 15" MBP?

Go to the apple store and find out.

By the way they are both LCD screens I would check to see if your MBP screen is a LED backlit LCD seeing as that is what the MBP's are currently shipping with.

there is no such thing as an LED screen, there are LCD screens with LED backlights.

and if it is a MBP screen, I am sure it would be possible, and definitely not worth the effort and warranty voiding.

I would be very leary of an LED backlit screen that someone is selling for a couple hundred dollars. A working one could easily fetch $500. Also, as circa said they are not the easiest thing to install and it is probably not really worth the effort unless you are really unhappy with your current display.

Yeah I guess you guys are right. I just saw my friend's new LED screen on his MBP and it was just really nice to look at. Although I am fine with the LCD, it would be nice to have the LED backlighting.

Do guys think selling this one to buy a newer one with LED is crazy?

Find wiring schematics to see if they have the same connector on the motherboard and same pin-out.

LED backlighting is on the backburner for CF-28 mods, so I'm in the same boat... But I'll tell you, anything is possible if you want it to be. It just might cost more than it's worth.

I think selling your current one and upgrading is less crazy than trying to install a new screen on your laptop.

It would probably cost you about the same overall for either operation. Maybe less to upgrade straight out...

Still crazy though. Wait another year and a half and then upgrade. It will be way sweeter then.
