Hey im looking at getting a 12" powerbook but not sure if its right for me. I use programs like MSN, Mirc, Something to type with and dvd burning software. I mainly use my pc to watch vide like .avi .ogm and .mkv formats and also dvd. Can a mac do this and would it be suggested? Also i hear that apple will use intel chips soon, should i wait? and if they use intel chips, will it be able to have windows on it? -thanks

Get a pc if you listen to lots of different video files. Macs for as much as I know can't play AVI and other Windows format files.

I'm sure they won't "let" you run windows natively and easily on a Mac, but people will find ways to, but don't count on it.

Use the FAQ in the hardware section for Windows notebook suggestions.

    Three letters: VLC .
This video player has the capability to play pretty much any video file out there, and its cross platform. I have had a little trouble with it, but it could be that its an intense quality and such, and my 1.33 G4 cant handle it. (and for wma files, there is wmp 9 for mac)

As for windows on macintels, as far as i know, they aren't stopping people from adding windows to the machine. It would be a much better business strategy to let people dual boot windows, as then people who are worried about switching, or the "less" compatability, or "i already bought this once and don't want to buy it again" will be more open to buying them and dual booting. This would really boost apples sales. Plus then people can easily see how much better os x really is ;).

My best guess is that it will run Windows. Won't know for sure until it is released. I think for what you are doing it will be fine. I am sure Apple includes some burning software if you get the DVD burner. You'll pay more for a Mac, but they are handsome and easy to use. Good Luck

If you don't need to buy now, hold out and wait. More than likely Macs, as well as their Wintel counterparts will be able to use both Mac OS X and Windows Vista.
