Basically what the thread's topic is. Is the audio jack both in and out?
"ifixit.com" boldly states: "The addition of an SD card slot (and the omission of digital/mic port) is readily apparent."
Omission = completely left out or integrated into the audio in port?
Thanks!

yes,it is both in/out,like on iPhone

Great. I guess it will be a little tougher finding a good headset with the three ring connector like the iPhone's earbuds but companies product's revolve around Apple so much I wouldn't be surprised to see something soon that's a little more heavy duty than something you would use with an iPhone.

I want to know how they got that to work. How the heck does the jack know if you're plugging in headphones/speakers, or a mic?

Look at your earphones. You'll see two circular lines. Now look at earphones with a mic. There are three circular lines.
(I only found this out a few months ago myself haha) -
The simple obvious things that get overlooked some times.

Or mono audio!

Headphone and line-in ports are a single port; use System Preferences to switch the port's behavior between line-in and headphone. This port defaults to output. -

Nowadays, hardware can automatically sense which kind of device it is. E.g. headphones, microphone..etc I don't know how it works, but the capability is there.
Is the 13 MBP's audio jack both in/out?
