My family has a 4 pound 12 inch iBook and I love it a lot. It's light, small and easy to use.

I have been thinking about getting a Macbook for myself but I am not too keen on the larger 13 inch screen and 5 pound weight.

Is the Macbook light enough for travel?

It's lightweight compared to most notebooks out in the market. However, it's not lightweight in its class.

One word to describe it is dense. Over 5lbs in a small package makes the MacBook feel dense. I think every 13" notebook should be < 5lbs.

Go to an apple store, close the lid and lift it up. You will know what I mean.

haha, i always get a laugh out of this. 5lb, 4lb, who cares? if the laptop with the exact features and specs i wanted existed i wouldn't care if it weighed 10lb. it'll be good for you.

It's kind of like lifting a 5lbs disc weight. It's dense like xprohx said earlier.

    I care.

During my college days, I had to haul a 7 pound Toshiba notebook around campus. It was such a pain.

That is why my current iBook is a god send.

Any notebooks I buy in the future must be light as a feather.

I heard rumors that the new Macbooks released in October will be smaller. Any truth to this?

Quite good description. I'd say it is heavier than it looks, bit it is quite portable.

    superman23,

the problem is that the weight of the laptop isn't good for you. its not like you are doing laptop curls, or power-book power-squats. the problem is, that most people have bags for their laptops, usually either strapped across one shoulder (messenger bag, can get really uncomfortable) or two shoulders in a backpack.

its not making you stronger if the weight is across a bone.

you might still not care if it was 20 pounds. maybe consider getting a desktop at that point...
