My friend thinks that the black mac book is the fasted like 2.3 ghz and the other white mac books are like 1.9. I said that the only reason why the black macbook is 200 dollars more is because of its color.

They range from 2.0Ghz to 2.16GHz. The middle range white one and the black one are 2.16GHz. The black one has a slightly larger harddrive. The price premium for the color isn't as much as it was when they were first released.

The $1300 White Macbook is exactly as fast as the $1500 Macbook. The only differences between the two are color and the hard disk size.

Price premium is larger with the current generation (3rd gen) of Macbooks. The previous generation was only a $50 difference.

I do not think that color is the reason of the price difference. it is because of the configuration

Color is the reason for the price difference. Configure a White Macbook exactly as same as the Black Macbook and see for yourself. You're paying a $125 paint job by buying the black.

Seriously? Is that true? It's $125 more just because it's a different color?

If true, it sure doesn't sound very Apple-like.

Actually that is very Apple like. They tend to gouge when possible. Look at the headphone jack on the iPhone, most headphones won't fit because it is recessed, but with a $9 adapter your problems are solved.

The Black 2.16GHz is faster than the White 2.16GHz.

Basically, black is a faster color.

If you paint it red, it will run even faster.

    Wow. That's a shame.

Hey, do the Macbooks still have the "sharp edges" problem? I've read a bunch of reports about it, but can't tell if it's still a problem or if it has been fixed.

They do, but it was definately blown out of the water. They're not that sharp, and it's not like you will be resting your wrists there anyways unless you want carpal tunnel.

It depends. I tried cutting my wrist with the sharp edges and I couldn't :p, and then one day I was just scrolling with my palm near the edges and I cut it slightly. No blood or anything, but it just annoys you for a while.

Basically it won't happen unless you type with your palm touching the laptop surface or you use the touchpad lazily :p like I did. If you keep your hand up like you would when you type its fine. And no, you won't suddenly get cut by just handling your MacBook.

Apparently, from my friend who works at apple. Apple's mentality for the black price premium is the idea that black would be bought by businessmen who didn't want to be associated with the college kids who would (most likely) prefer the classic apple white. So they made those that actually cared about this association pay the extra money

    I do type that way.

In fact, isn't that exactly why they call it a "palm rest"?

Man... that just doesn't seem right. At all.

Between this and the sharp edge thing not getting fixed, maybe Dell is not so bad after all.

Hmm, good point. You'd think they would release them before school starts -- not after.

Wow, that would be really cool if they let you zoom using touchpad gestures.
That sounds like something that they could implement for existing owners with just a software update, though.
