Considering rumors of updates and the upcoming OS release, I would just like to ask if I should hold off on my purchase.
I've been planning on getting one for a while now, and I wonder if there's a point in waiting. Am I just wasting my time?
I don't mean to ask a dumb question, I am just wondering if there's some upcoming updates that I should know about and consider.

Well, you can expect a MBP update in early next year...but other than that there will be most likely/almost for sure be no update of the MBP until then; other than say the 17-inch MBP getting LED-backlit screens, but I could see Apple waiting until early next year to update that.
Leopard is going to be released next month, so if you can wait, obviously you should take advantage of getting it pre-installed then. If you can't wait until October (which could possibly be late October), then just get a MBP now. There is always the chance that Steve Jobs announces all Macs bought from September get a free upgrade to Leopard. -

Buy it when you need it.

Oh sam your teasing me with saying something like that. if he is nice like that, its too bad i bought mine in late august : <
Lets just hope they do something like that, cause it would make sense -
If I were you I would hold off for about a month or little bit longer. I would let Leopard be released, go to an Apple Store and check it out, and then buy it...but if you need the laptop now just buy it now...and if you want Leopard in the future it will be $129.

. But Apple's customer service is really good; I'm sure if you yell at them a bit you'll get Leopard for free or discounted as well.
And to vaio2k7, just a note: if previous OS X versions are any indication, you will be able to get Leopard with a Student Discount for just $69. -
I learned my lesson with my old B&W Rev.1.
I'll read everyone's reviews first -

If you're not a student, then you can look at some resellers (such as MacMall, which sells Macs for lower prices than Apple) or possibly getting a refurbished Mac. -

What is true of all LED screens though is that at wider viewing angles the yellowish hue does appear, in all parts of the screen, but can be mitigated by changing the display color option.
Is there a point to buying a MBP now?
