Is there a way to quieten the DVD drive during playback?

On my Windows-based systems, I can use Nero Tools to slow the DVD drive to 1x so it's as quiet as a mouse. I find the MBP DVD drive quite noisy playing movies at night in the quiet of my room. Can anything be done about it?

    Thanks for any help.

Really, I think it depends on the movie and it's level of copy protection. I've got some Sony Arccos DVD's that seem to play while the DVD drive is spinning as fast as possible. Honestly, you'd think it'd blow up as loud as it is.

Otherwise, I've never heard of a program that'll slow a DVD down while reading. You could always rip the DVD movie onto the hard disk, than it'd be extremely quiet while playing.

Takes like 5 minutes, then you can just delete the file when you are done with it.

Otherwise, yeah, you are dealing with physical media spinning round and round.

Sometimes it helps to eject and reinsert the DVD, looking for that good seating in the drive.
