Hello,
I have two laptops. One is a macbook and the other is a Toshiba that has Vista. The Toshiba works pretty well, but I want to be able to back it up like I can with the mac and time machine.
Is there any Windows software out there that can come close? I know there is backup software that comes with some external hard drives, but I think they just save your files and not your settings.
Thanks

This is the Apple section, you should ask in the Windows section.

Windows backup and restore?

Acronis is way better than TM

Windows Complete PC Backup.
It allows you to save a complete copy of your HDD to optical disk. I don't know however it would work properly on a mac, considering the different boot partitions and formats. I know that with Complete PC Backup, it only saves the contents of your entire hard drive, you cannot select individual partitions.

I use Windows Complete PC Backup a lot and it works very well. It's just a pity that you have to get Vista Business or Ultimate to have it. Home Premium users are out of luck.

He might be after something which lets you use a gui to dial back through previous backups and select a single file, Acronis does look the best, it's not 'pretty' like time machine but functions in much the same way, it's about $80 I think?
Funny how windows guys say macs are expensive, buying windows + third party apps to get it to work like OS X is $$ -

$80 is not too steep, for a pretty good backup solution. It`s like upgrading to Final Cut for $500 from the free iMovie. -
I had Vista Home Premium on my last laptop, using backup and restore that came with it I could set it to create automatic restore points and select a specific date to restore. I only used it a couple times but it worked flawlessly, similar to time machine. For complete back-ups I just saved a image on my external. Now that I have vista ultimate everything comes with it and it backs up my computer automatically. Basically the same as time machine, just not with such a fancy interface.

I miss Ghost 2003, that was the best backup solution I've ever used.
Is there anything like time machine for windows
