Someone offered me a black macbook + 900$ for my pro. Is this a good deal for me?

The Macbook is a core duo 2.0, 80gb, 2gb ram corsair.

My Macbook pro's specs are mentioned in my sig.

Should I do it? I really want a black book, I would of preffered a core 2 duo but 900 $ is really tempting. What do you think?

If the loss of a dedicated graphics card doesnt bother you, then its a great deal.

The black macbook is worth around $1000 I think, if you bought it refurbished. I think it's a good deal if you are ok with having a macbook instead of a pro (no dedicated graphics, smaller... keyboard doesn't light up...) I'd think it'd boil down to why you bought a pro instead of a macbook in the first place.

1 does it have apple care? 2 what revision core duo is it? Those core duos baked in the early revisions, and still ran hot later down the line so be sure first. No matter how much it's worth you don't want to get stuck with a dud.

In the future Leopard will support 64 bit games and applications.. Your MBP will take advantage of that, if it happens soon and you choose to. The macbook Coreduo will not

all in all, I'd keep the Macbook Pro

Financially it may make sense...if you don't factor in depreciation. If you factor in depreciation, you're not getting a good deal at all. I would say no deal.

Personal preference obviously plays a big role, but I assume there was a reason for you buying the MBP, and considering it is a step back generation-wise, I'd say keep the MBP.

Depreciation, as iwantamac mentions, says it's not a good deal - computers lose their original value real fast because of how fast the industry progresses.

I bought the pro for gaming, but I rarely do that any more. I don't mind sacrificing the graphics card, it's the processor that worries me. The macbook was purchased August 2006 from amazon, would that be an earlier core duo model?

Still can't make up my mind. The reason I'm doing this is that the macbook is slightly smaller, battery lasts longer and I love the keyboard. My macbook pro has a few things that bother me that I mentioned in earlier posts. Like the screen for example isn't straight; with the lid closed the left side is has a bigger gap than the right hand side. The electricity buzz that I get every once in a while bothers me too. I know these points aren't a big deal but I'm a control freak and seek near perfection when it comes to electronics.

About depreciation, down the road I think if I already have 900$ in my pocket, I'd make a better profit selling the macbook. I mean, if I sell the mbp in a few months I would get around 1500. With the macbook I could at least get 700 + the 900 that I already have = 1600. The longer I keep the machine the better this deal is.

I feel like I'm playing monopoly.

    Thanks for your advice everyone.

Purchased means ??? I think you'd have to check the serial number for what week it was made. MOST problems were fixed by August/September, but they still ran hot. There are firmware fixes, fan controls etc. but the C2D is still superior in thermal design. Assuming you'll be selling the macbook eventually also, and getting a newer better model.. I guess it's at least a fair deal.
