So I got a Mac Book Pro last Thursday. Since that time I have had it replaced several times. The first one had the warped lid and was bent up like a smile. The second one had the yellowing in the lower 1/3 of the screen. The third would not even stay shut when closed. The latch actually did not work. So now on my fourth MBP and there is some kind of electrical noise either the fan or something else coming from the left speaker. I had already taken it in once to the mac genius, and he said he didn't hear anything. However, if I am sitting at my desk at work or in my living room where it is quiet, you can hear it quite clearly. My work actually bought me a MBP, and comparing the two, the one my work bought me does not exhibit the noise.
I know probably everyone who reads this thinks I am crazy or just looking for issues, but that is not the case. I believe if I pay close to $2,000 dollars for computer, it should be without flaws. Tomorrow I am going back to the Apple store with both laptops to have them compare them.

Hey go for it. Anytime you are paying for technology, make sure it works 100% before you're satisfied with it. That issue could be with the power adapter, or any number of things. Apple can't stop you from replacing a defective notebook, so go replace them until you get one that you really think is perfect.
You're not out of line or crazy at all. -
Thanks for the encouragement man! The funny thing is, the one that work purchased for me (through the Apple website) is flawless as far as I can tell. Sucks. Wish I could give work the one I purchased.
-
I have had 2 MBPROS lately and they rock. Take care of the issues and enjoy it!
-
mac 'genius'...pshh i wonder if they had taken an iq test before claiming to be one. exchange for another! could be the common problems that most people experience with their notebooks? "CPU Whine"/the power saving state troubles/the dumb platform that needs renovation.
Try out that one software solution [cant remember the name of the software] any one lend a hand? -
Definitely don't settle, make sure you get a machine you're happy with. You have every right to demand solid manufacturing in such an expensive piece of equipment.
-
I love the love guys. I will march in there tomorrow with my 2 MBPs, a tank, and a pocket without bubble gum. Cause its time to kickass!
-
if you still have issues, contact Apple customer relations, and let them know what is going on, you have already had your machine replaced way more times than ever should have been necessary, you shouldn't have to keep dealing with this.
-
You're just unlucky... Gotta quit breaking those mirrors, quit kicking the neighbour's black cat, and you should move that ladder so you don't walk under it every time you go outside.
-
How do I get in touch with customer relations?
-
NVM. I plan on going to the Apple store tomorrow. I will give everyone an update then.

Well, Apple is amazing. Can't believe it. Here is what went down. I went into the store with the MBP thinking I was going to pay the restocking fee if they said the fan noise was "within spec". As I approached the Genius Bar, I saw the same genius I had before. As luck would have it, he was the genius who I was going to deal with. I told him I still heard the strange buzzing/electrical sound coming from the left speaker. Showing him my work laptop, I said that this one did not exhibit the same noise. He asked me what I wanted to do at that point, and I said return the unit for a refund. The manager was there and she said no problem. I then said I did not want to pay the restocking fee. She said if the unit was found defective, then I would not be charged the fee. The Genius said it was defective and I was going to receive the original amount back.
HERE IS THE KICKER....
When he was about ready to swipe my check card and put the money back on, I looked at the amount and it was $2,150. I then told him this was the wrong amount as I had received the teacher discount and was also tax exempt. The manager standing right there, told him to go ahead and put the $2,150 back on my card. I stood there with my mouth open. She said for all my troubles, that it was fine. Just to tell everyone what a great company Apple is. I left the store with $350 from Apple. Holy ****! I still can't believe it. I will be an Apple customer for life. -
Wow, that's awesome! Great to see some good in-store service, I'm glad things worked out for you. Are you planning on ordering a MBP online now, or just not getting a new one?

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Yeah, that's the great thing about buying an Apple product. I was really glad Steve Jobs offered early iPhone adopters (I got mine in July, and still love it) a $100 credit since they lowered the price by $200 a few months after it came out. They like to try to keep their customers satisfied, which is hard to say for most brands. -
dont buy another pro. sounds like you have a luck issue with them. Have someone else buy you one
-
Grats! I'm glad your story turned out well, they replaced it multiple time, did not charge a re-stocking fee, and payed you back your full-amount +350$. +Rep for apple
-
Go for it...don't let them tell you your computer isn't defective when it really is! Hopefully it won't get this bad: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=343603

that makes me want to punch them in the head... (not really a mature response) however that's what I thought when I read your link

I've just read through that story and it was a pretty interesting read. Fortunately, the geniuses at my Apple Store are pretty helpful, especially to the customers that don't know much about computers (I know more than the Apple reps lol). Anyway, when I went in to exchange my iPhone because of its' faulty battery the guy didn't hesitate to exchange it. -
I'm glad you got what you wanted. How many computer manufacturers let you walk in and to to them about your computer problems for free? Everything is Ad Hoc at the Apple because of the Mac Geniuses.
-
Yeah, I will probably purchase another one online. I might need to make a small offering and get my lucky troll first though.
-
I'm sorry to hear you had so much trouble. Everything happens for a reason. Perhaps you can use this opportunity to think about which model best suits your needs. If you already have a "work" MBP, perhaps a MBA or a MB might suit your needs and save you some money. The difference between the $1300 model, $1500 Black model and the base MBP are not that significant. The MBA removes a lot of features but is a LOT lighter. Give it some thought before you purchase online.

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
Yea i agree. Why get two MBP when you could get 2 different notebooks? -
Well see here is the rub. I like using notebook to play games, and I can't install games on my work computer. When I travel to friends houses I like to have a machine to play games on.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
So why not get a gaming notebook like the Alienware m15x or the Sager N5793? They'll also play games better than the MBP, much better if you configure them with an 8800M GTX.
-
Don't know anything about the Sager, but haven't you read all the posts concerning the problems with the AW machine? Don't think that's a good choice for the time being. The issues should be sorted out, IMHO, before anyone even considers that model.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Most of the problems have been sorted out. There's only one problem that happened once to one used that the case cracked, but I think that might've been out of misuse.
-
I would probably not purchase either the alienware or the sager. I have a desktop for serious gaming. I just wanted a backup system in case my work MBP or my own MBP breaks down. There would be nothing worse than presenting in front of a couple hundred people and have my laptop crap out. I already tried BF2142 with bootcamp and it ran flawlessly on the highest settings. So I would like to stick with a mac.
