So I just ordered a Base 13" MBP but now I have been reading up about the rumors about the conference and etc so I am starting to have buyers remorse should I cancel the order? I am pretty sure the base 13" MBP won't get the core i5/i7 processors but is getting a video card upgrade possible?
-
Doubt there will be a update for them, But if you want to wait till the end of January then do it.
-
It boils down to whether or not you're willing to base your decisions on rumours or not. Personally I'd rather make a decision based upon fact.
-
So what do you think keep my order or cancel? lol
-
If apple wants to keep selling their products I see no other way than for them to upgrade their cpu's. They already offer no decent gaming gpu power whatsoever, if they fall behind in cpu too they will probably steer the fans of fast and shiny laptops towards sony.
I'm surprised anyone would buy a laptop during this period, since there are so many new models comming out. But, if you need a laptop right now...then you really don't have a choice do you? -
Canceling would be recommended if you can afford to wait a few weeks.
-
Just talked to the place where I ordered the macbook and he said he placed the order for me already but Apple doesn't open for another hour and 30minutes so he can call then and cancel but he told me about this policy they have.
He said it is called the 90 day "Upgrade Advantage" where if a newer hardware is released for your version that you purchased all I would have to do is ship it back to him and he ships it to Apple who would send me a new one. -
wait it out.
-
I'm pretty sure it's 14 days not 90.
-
I don't know I asked him to check it and he said it was 90 and that it isn't like the Apple Store stuff so I couldn't take it into the Apple store I would have to mail it back to him and he would send it to Apple since he is an authorized retailer.
This was the conversation I had
Him: it's no problem. i'll contact them in an hour and a half.
Him: but i did check, there is the 90 day "Upgrade Advantage"
Him: so, if they think there is some super-quick refresh you're covered -
Maybe because anyone serious about gaming will build their own PC and not use a Mac?
Seriously, think about how ridiculous that comment was. -
For Apple it is 14 days. You can stretch it a bit if you are lucky but no where near 90 days.
-
Well like he said he is going to call in about an hour once they open to see if my order can be canceled since it was placed yesterday evening. If it can't be canceled and he says it is 90days then I will trust him since I have purchased 3 desktops and this would be the 2nd laptop from him so he would keep his word I am sure.
-
We are talking about laptops and you bring up building a desktop.
Seems to me you have matched my ridiculousness
Second, if mac would give good graphic cards i'm sure they would sell a lot more. -
You're making an Apples to Oranges comparison by saying Mac's don't have "decent gaming gpu power". Mac's aren't meant to be a serious gaming platform and as I said, anyone serious about gaming (and half a clue) will build their own PC desktop to play games on.
It's like saying a Kia Rio doesn't have a big enough engine to go racing with. Well for one, it's not designed to go racing with so this comparison, and yours, become moot since they are comparing dissimilar objects and functions.
No, I think you have a huge head start in the ridiculous department.
I'm sure more people would take you serious if you didn't continually interject your biased, and severely misinformed opinions about things which you have *NO* clue about!
To the OP, don't base your decisions upon rumours or possible upgrades because you may be waiting in vain. Buy what you need, when you need it. If you can wait, then obviously you don't need it yet. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
@ antwerp
obviously, the mac is not intended to be a serious gaming platform, i have no idea how you got that in your head.
@ khris
people serious about gaming can buy a variety of laptops for about $1000 that will do the job just fine. -
Fair enough. The main point however is that it's a PC laptop and not a Mac.
-
If I'm getting a Mac, I'm not too concerned about the GPU. Anyway more than likely the MBPs will get a CPU update early this year.
-
I'm waiting personally to see what occurs. I need USB 3.0, or eSata, or an Express Card 2.0 slot for what I need, none of which is on a Mac at this time. If they can manage to fit one of those on their top end 15 I'll be buying.
-
Be a man and buy it
-
Just an update to those who are curious.
I called him today and talked to him he said he called his Apple District Rep that said there won't be any refresh on the low end 13" MBP's until for a little bit aka the summer. I ordered the low end 13" MBP that has an MSRP of 1199. I asked him if he still stands by the 90day thing because you guys are saying 14days and he said yes the 14day thing is with Apple Store's only but the 90day thing is with his Apple Distributor which backs 90days if a quick refresh happens and you can send your macbook back to get the new model. So I told him to go ahead and leave the order since he will back me on 90days.
I purchased a Vaio SZ a few years back from him which had a yellow screen issue and that turned me off from Vaio's and he said that actually Sony doesn't let him return them only exchange without a restocking fee but he ended up taking it back from me anyways to keep me as a customer so I trust him. -
Few notes.
Firstly even if an Apple district representative knew about the refresh, it would be their job if they leaked it.
Second, I know you trust the guy, but it just sounds off for someone to accept a return within 90 days if a refresh occurs. Considering the 'typical' MBP refresh cycle is every 200 days, they would be accepting returns for a staggering number of laptops.... -
Yeah but I am saying not everyone knows about the 90day thing it is basically for those who buy Mac's from the distributor and end up still having them in stock when the refresh hits so the distributor gives them 90days of coverage if a new refresh comes out. And the 90day thing doesn't apply to people who buy in mac store's. I am ordering from someone who is an authorized mac vendor that buys them from an Apple distributor. Basically the guy I am buying it from is a friend so he would be willing to send my MBP back to the distributor if it is within the 90day coverage.
As for the representative leaking it who knows if it's true or not but it was someone who sells mac's asking about it and not a customer / news website. All in all I placed my order since I am covered for 90days if a refresh happens. You guy's don't have to believe me but like I posted earlier I purchased a 2grand+ laptop from him when Sony refused to take it back since they charge a restocking fee and he still returned my money and took back the laptop. -
I'd get it in writing.
-
So he called His Stevenes?
Seriously, I think only 10 people actually know the real date of the update... -
Since it is so close to January 26th, I would wait.
-
I'm waiting.
-Intel has released their new CPUs and chipset.
-Competitors like Sony and Dell are updating their products.
-This is what the Buyer's guide at Macrumors says:
Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon
Days Since Update 217 (Avg = 200) -
Yeah I saw that to, I ended up keeping the order anyways since his distributor gives him a 90day exchange period if a refresh happens. So my only inconvenience would be shipping the mac back to him but then I will be able to use the mac when I get it up until the refresh.
-
i am waiting until the end of january to buy mine
-
