Nice . Where did you buy it from?

nice buy. for $5xx, you really can't go wrong.
enjoy. -
I am happy for your purchase. I have spent the last week getting to know Leopard 'intimately' if you will. Personally, I think the dashboard is amazing.....It is the highlight of my OSX experience. I don't see what others see in the OS other than that though.
Different...yes.... dashboard...wahooo..love it....the rest....kinda mundane I think.
If someone can show me some real benefits please do...Im still looking here. -
Haha, congrats gold_titanic! Be sure to check out these links!

To Les, there's many factors. For me, its the little things that improve my user experience. The Dock, Spotlight, the integration between different applications, Front Row...none of these are major features, but they all add up. Better screensavers. Generally, a more logical way of working a computer for me. -
Sam... thank you. I forgot to mention that I like the stacking effect as well...just find myself jumping between two systems here. A company wanted me to give an opinion on a certain ssd in a Mac...
I'm also still not really impressed that legally, one can dual boot a Mac with Vista and OSX but not vice versa... -

Thanks all of You guys and Sam for nice helpful links. -
I have to agree with this as well. When I first started using Mac OS, I couldn't figure out why the scrollbar arrows were both together at the bottom. Then as I was scrolling through a webpage (using the arrows) it hit me.....having both arrows together means you don't have to keep moving your mouse up to the top scroll arrow and then down to the bottom scroll arrow to scroll through a page. (Granted, this is negated by having a scroll wheel on your mouse, but the logic behind it is valid).
I love the stacks. Spotlight is fabulous. Spaces, Expose, and above all, I love the unified menu bar. -
I love stacks, the two finger scrolling, the looks of the os and the hardware, spaces, expose, dashboard, but i don't like spotlight. I prefer quicksilver instead. Oh and i also like it because its unix based.

Wow, $550 for a PowerBook G4, those things still go for $700-plus on eBay, have fun
-
Why do you have question marks in the title? Congrats by the way.
-
To me it's stars.
-
They're stars for me too.
-
Which is another thing about the placement of the Close, Expand buttons as well (buttons on left side in OS X instead of right side on Windows). If you think about, the majority of the controls in a window (File, Edit, View) are on the left side of a window...so why not have the buttons there too? Otherwise, you have to move your cursor all the way across the screen to reach those buttons. Of course, negated again with shortcuts
.

???
Congrats to OP! -

on a pc it shows up as question marks, on the mac it shows up as stars.
THAT is why mac is better than pc... so you can see the funky symbols mac people put in forums!
don't know what to say about the legal issue though. sorry that it failed to impress you? there are a lot of people who want leopard for pc, but opening the OS would destroy everything that is good about osx. its not good because of the limited market, but having a small market of computers makes several good things possible. specifically, tight integration of software and hardware. -
It is stars using VISTA and Firefox on my PC.
Andrew -
Hm, I don't think you can see this on Windows either:
-
Yeah, I am using Windows XP with Firefox and they appear as question marks.
-
I see stars under vista. I don't know... my I'm on the ledge right now. I could go either way; PC or mac. I'm a bit fed up with some of Vista and XPs little problems, which aren't major but do add up. I also have quite a bit of experience with Macs, so I wouldn't have a problem switching.
-
I see stars on Windows XP using Firefox. -
-
Yup... I see the same, on XP.
-
Well congratulations on your Mac. I'm happy that you are enjoying the new OS and I hope you get some benefits out of it. Gotta start doing some artistic creation now that you have one
Anyways, personally I actually do not like a few things about mac. I actually hate the dock and I prefer the Vista taskbar. Spotlight is nice but MS just pretty much ripped it off which is fine because I like the one on Vista just fine. One thing that really annoys me though is how resizing windows works. When you hit the plus button on notebook review, it doesn't stretch is out enough and you manually have to do it. In addition, who decided that you can only resize the window from the bottom right, that is just plain annoying in my opinion.
Mac is nice, but there are just a few things that really bother me while using it. -
Well, once you actually think about it, there is no real need to have a window take up the whole screen...a web browser doesn't need to take up a whole screen, rarely are any websites wide, they're more likely long.
-
I agree! It took me a bit to get over that, but now I cannot use a window full screen. It just bugs me that there is wasted space in the browser.
-
gold_titanic congrats with your purchase i am glad that you are happy with it. Those Powerbooks still can be very useable computers. I notice that a lot of people in the media still use them and have not switched to the MBP. Maybe that is because the MBP has a webcam and is not allowed in their corporation. I could not get a PPC Mac right now as i have tried using Virtual PC on a Mac but it is just far to slow.
You can see here how the G4 processor matches up against the more modern processors. It seems to be at about the same level as Pentium M processors. I guess it depends where you are coming as to whether you see it as being blazing fast.

I have owned several Macs. I like the look of Mac OSX and i like using Preview for editing. You can easily change pdef documents/pictures over to JPEG etc on a Mac. You can also resize things without them becoming disorted. Some windows applications i find better for using some things and vice versa.
I don’t like the search option on a Mac the way in which Leopard handles past searches. I also don’t particularly like how Leopard organises things either like the documents and pictures.
I don't get viruses using Vista because i am careful about the sites i visit and what i download. -
I love OSX, and have several Macs, however, I agree with Stone - I dislike having to manually stretch the window to fill the screen. Depending on the size of the screen, of course, too much real estate can be lost to see things clearly, or in their entirety by not using the full screen. Minor issue, but a pain just the same.

Microsoft created this circumstance themselves. They let everyone use their OS. There is no "legal" issue here whatsoever. The Mac OS is proprietary to it's hardware. If Dell, HP, Acer, Fujitsu, Sony, and every other hardware manufacturer can use Microsoft OS's, then why not Apple? If you were to bring a unique product to market, you would need to pick-your-poison and decide how to introduce it to people, whether it be to sell through retailers, wholesalers, direct-to-public, or otherwise. The poison part occurs when "you" (the inventor or manufacturer) decide to bypass one of the networks in the supply chain, and sell "past" them to the guy in front of them. Who is being protected then? There is alot more than that, but sticking with the topic....... The really brilliant thing here is that Apple have challenged the tradition, and have a great hardware product and a great software product. Remember back in the '80's when everything had to be "I.B.M. Compatible"? The HARDWARE was the standard, and every software manufacturer had to cater to this notion. THEN, along comes Windows and the tides turned, so that the software became the standard, and manufacturing had to adapt. Windows became the standard, so every (oops, almost every) manufacturer had to make their systems operate on the systems of popularity. Hats off to Apple for sticking it out and forging ahead with their game plan. They now have 16% of the world marketplace.

Wow that's an awesome ass deal for $550!!
-
Yep that is the one thing that i still do not like about macs is that there is no fullscreen button. But everything else is better. I love quicksilver, spotlight is too slow. And finder is also really good. But one of the best thing is that its unix based.
-
Raymond Luxury-Yacht Notebook Consultant
^ You really, really don't *need* the fullscreen option; and in fact, it's more efficient to use the desktop *without it*. If I'd be correct to infer from the specs in your sig., that you're very new into MacOS X, I assure you that you'll come to appreciate the way windows work here. It's a lot more 'elegant'.
-
Raymond, you are absolutely right. It took me some time to appreciate working on not-maximised windows. It is much better and I am no longer distracted by other elements. Also flipping between the windows is easier, drag 'n' drop more natural and with Spaces you can easily swap apps.
-
I guess raymond is right since osx automatically adjusts the window to the correct resolution of the windows or webpage instead of having to make it fullscreen. So when firefox opens to whatever size, that is the size of the webpage right? I hope i'm wording this correctly.
-
Just to add a little of my two (or one) cent, I rarely do maximized window in web browsing. Maybe for other applications, like PS or Word, but not in FireFox. I'm still using a PC and I don't really see the need to extend the page so wide really. I can click on the desktop to run other shortcuts as oppose to minimizing the window first. Just my preference.
-
Even for Word though...unless you're zoomed up, most likely the document doesn't take up a whole widescreen. Therefore, "wasted" space again.
Just bought a Mac. It is AMAZING!!!
