I just bought an OPEN BOX i.e. Slightly used! Base macbook:

    C2D 2.1ghz
    1GB ram
    cd/dvd drive
    X3100 gpu
    13.3'' inch screen
    2 years warranty
    Total= 1254.00 Canadian

    My thoughts:

I like the body of the machine. This thing is **** sexy, miles ahead of my old Toshiba Satellite. Form factor and screen size are perfect. The weight is ok. Battery life I haven't stressed yet, but so far enjoying my time away from an outlet. I don't like the loading noise of the optical drive. The french keyboard doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm not impressed with the price and specs! This was an impulse buy for sure. I never saw a mac go for cheap in big box stores such as best buy/futureshop and I do love OS X.
Comparatively, I could buy a lenovo t400 with better hardware, bigger screen and just as light though not as pretty, but cheaper.

Conclusion: I just don't see any value in this notebook to justify the price when making comparisons to what's on the market right now.
I'm returning it within the next 2 weeks and placing an order for the T400 when the pricing error on the LED screen is fixed or the LG p300 if it comes down in price by $200, whichever comes first.
I mean, if this thing cost $800, sure I'd dig it.

*EDIT* Well, forget I even asked! Haha.

    Thanks for your time.

Installing OS X on a non-Apple computer is illegal and any discussion related to that is strictly against the forum rules.

I don't think he was talking about installing OS X on the non-Apple computer. I took it as he was going to keep his MacBook untill the T400 came out with better specs and then he was going to buy the T400 with Vista or w/e. Not trying to jump the gun or anything but that's my representation of the thread.

I was actually. Such a shame apple doesn't offer their OS on non-apple computers.

That topic has been beat to death here, and only served to fuel flame wars. Still this board is far more calm then other's I've visited.
Back on topic... I think the base macbook isn't a bad deal**, but that's my opinion. Atleast the price lowered by $100** and apple got rid of that combo drive!!

** I'm talking about the US online store. :p

Dude best buy is having a sale on old macbooks...was that with tax? Cause the 2.4Ghz ver. is 1299.99 on bestbuy website.

EDIT: Off-Topic! Just noticed that magsafe adapters are like $100+ ! Do other notebook power supplies cost that much?

Yup, tax in. Even if I didn't get the extended warranty, this machine would've cost me $1117.57 after tax, the insult really being it was an open box model. Future shop = 2 thumbs down.
