Wow I'm good at convincing people to buy new laptops. :D :D :D

I just convinced a good friend to buy a new 17" MBP with the 2.5Ghz and 1920x1200 NON-glossy LED, and the 250GB 5400rpm drive.

The good news? He wants ME to put his 200GB Hitachi 7200rpm drive in there for him.

The best news? The system is coming to MY house. Bwahaha! :D :D

Expect a full review, and comparisons to my 2.4Ghz "old skool" 15.4 LED non-glossy.

I ordered it today, and it has a 7-10 day lead time because of the new display. It's funny cause as soon as I changed the display from the default, it went from 2-4 days to 7-10 days! Bah!

    Anyway, more to come!

I agree, thecommish16, but he REALLY wanted a full HD display, so I wasn't going to tell him no.

yeah, 17 is too big for a LAPtop. Awesome with the opportunity though. Nothing like playing with a laptop that you didn't pay for.... lol.

17 inch is too big. It makes notebook very heavy. I prefer 15.4 inch notebooks, which is just the right size. By the way, why did you get a MBP?The OS sucks and Windows is much better. I have Windows XP Pro. Waiting for the upcoming Vista SP1.

the 17" macbook pro is the smallest 17" notebook available, it is thinner than nearly all other 15.4" laptops as well, and only weighs slightly more that most as well.

kind of odd that LED backlight is only available on the HD option. but that is the one I would always recommend anyway.

big does not always equate to being heavy... its all relative really.. IMO the 17" MBP is quite light, i certainly dont mind lugging it around. what i do mind though is that it is quite big.. and take bigger deskspace than its nicely sized 15" MBP. i agree with you on the 15" notebook being the sweetspot. but for those who only want to lug it ocassionaly, i think 17" should be considered.

windows vs. mac? dont start.. but dont be bias though.. this is OS X after all. not OS 9. if you want the general purpose your only computer. then windows might be a good idea.. but if you're not computer savvy, or just want second computer or even can't be bothered with windows non-sense (driver fetching, virus update, spyware update, illogical user interface etc.) then mac is an excellent alternative.

Yeah, I've personally used a 17" Powerbook. Huge (as in footprint). Still light though.

Hope he's not planning on gaming on that.

I don't know why people call it huge. Apple makes the smallest 17" notebook around. It's even lighter than most 15" notebooks on the market.

Yeah its definetly small compared to other 17"

Also, this is my secondary computer. I'm not sure I'd switch my desktop over to Mac too though....I like having both, thats why I bought the MBPRO.

I have to disagree :). Although its a weird story for me, as I won this MacBook, so I can't say I bought a Mac for Mac OS X, but I personally want a Mac for Mac OS X. Its awesome to me, miles better than Windows in many ways.

man people really need to start understanding that an opinion is just that, it is not actually describing anything but how a person feels about something, not saying anything about the actual object really.

opinions are important sure, but man people love to let their negative opinions be heard for really bizarre reasons.
