    Hello,

I have been asking around here for AGES if I should get a MacBook, and today I got one for my graduation. I am already loving it!

Just to make clear really quickly, I have already read the Mac Switchers Guide both on here and Apple.com, and just have a quick question.

I have calibrated my screen and am now charging the battery, but it seems to be stuck at 99%. Should I just disconnect the charger and let it drain anyways?

I got the 2.4 Ghz white model with 2gigs memory and 160gig harddrive. I am now importing all my music :].

Thanks in advance, and I will post pics later.

Congrats Dustin! Wow, I thought you had a Mac long ago :p.

Anyway, the battery isn't charging anymore because the battery does not charge until it drops below 96%, that is to prevent overcharging. So don't worry about it, just leave it at 99% until you need to unplug it, and the next time you recharge it, it'll head straight to 100%!

    Congrats on your new macbook!
As for batteries, Li-ion batteries usually take a long time to charge from 99% to 100% for some reason. This happens on my macbook pro as well as my other PC notebooks too. I wouldn't be too worried about it. :)

I just unplugged the charger and it says it's at 100%! So "crisis" averted haha.

I am now going to calibrate it and let it run while I am chatting on AIM and watching some shows. Love it!

Hey I have some more questions really quickly.

What else is there that I can use besides AIM for mac? This is such an old version, and when I press Enter it doesn't send the message, it just goes to the next line :\

Haha, I used to have that problem. I agree with the person above me that you should get Adium. However, if you really want to use AIM, there should be an option somewhere in the preferences that says something along the lines of "press return to send message."

    I will look into Adium!

One thing I have to get used to is looking for the menu in applications to change preferences :p.

Yesterday I calibrated the battery and it lasted almost five hours! I was watching Scrubs, chatting on AIM, and also on NBR :) I am pretty impressed, and it wasn't even on the "Better Battery Life" option.

One IM program that doesn't seem to get too much publicity is Mercury Messenger. It's not bad and does allow video chat.

    Congrats on the new Mac.

Tomorrow is the ultimate test - a seven hour road trip to northern Cali. I will be watching House and Scrubs, and maybe a movie too :p.

    Congratulations!!!

Sam is right, but on the other hand I've seen many notebooks (not just Macs) that don't want to ever charge to 100% despite this. So if it's at 99% it doesn't really matter...it's just an inaccuracy in the software. Besides, even the meter that tells you how much juice you have left isn't 100% accurate. It's just a timer that changes based on your usage. So don't worry if you can only charge to 99%. I believe from 0-80% it does a rapid charge and then from 80-100 it "trickle charges" i.e. very slowly...and as Sam said if it's already at a certain level it won't charge to prevent overcharging. Notice that when it's empty it will charge very quickly for the first say 80%.

Enjoy the macbook! Be sure to check out some of the other threads in this forum as there are some really great pieces of advice from the Mac-experts here at NBR. If you're looking for an even larger Mac community, you can read up on Macrumors.com. Again, congratulations on the machine!
