It looks like I handed the damn thing to Freddy and he clawed it all up. I've barely even moved it except from a bag and back, yet it still has numerous small scratches and dings.
It's really quite disappointing that my $1000 bought a great machine, but it's almost a shame to show it to anyone. "Gosh it has a lot of scratches." My 2 year old HP with a fingerprint magnet glossy finish had no scratches at all when I got rid of it.
Is there anything that can buff them out?

I had an iPod Nano that was scratched by breathing on it though, so no doubt they may have screwed it.
By the way, why didn't you get a $1000 Macbook Pro 13?
They are everywhere at Microcenter. http://www.microcenter.com/ -
That's the one thing I hate about the MBs, that plastic scratches way too easily and it shows it very well too. I hate to say it but as CitizenPanda mentioned, you should have gone with a MBP, it's a much better buy than a MB for so many reasons.

The Macbook Pro does however have an additional Firewire 800 port and SD-Card slot as well as a backlit keyboard and as "doh123" already said, it also comes stock with 4Gb of RAM instead of the Macbook's 2Gb and the Macbook Pro does of course have an aluminum enclosure.
One thing that might not be so apparent however is that the Macbook Pro is also a bit smaller (MBP:0.95" x 12.78" x 8.94", MB:1.08" x 13.00" x 9.12") and weighs a bit less (MBP:4.5lbs, MB:4.7lbs) than the Macbook.
It's not a huge difference but might be noticeable to some.
I would personally prefer the Macbook Pro over the Macbook because of the additional ports alone but I like the all-white casing of the Macbook slightly better to be honest but which one to choose is after all a very personal decision.
Although, the Microcenter pricing would make this decision quite easy for me -
Isn't the screen also better on the Macbook Pro compared to the Macbook? I remember Gizmodo doing a comparison of the 2 screens and being far more impressed with the Pro, especially from a color accuracy and viewing angle perspective.

The white macbooks do scratch, however the macbook pro aluminum does not scratch much at all, my 4 + year old model still looks almost new, very few scratches on it at all...

Mines a few years old and still looks new. I have no case or cloth for it. Maybe you are just hard on it. -
The aluminum will scratch, its just that the outer layer is tougher since the metal does oxidize.
Just got a Macbook on Friday and...
