And I must say I love it. This is my first Apple(previous WinDoze user) and OS X is quite an OS.
I was wondering, is there anything a user should do with a brand new Macbook Pro? Like downloading any plugins? Or anything...
Thanks.

Well therse a thread for switchers that has a lotta the stuff you should do. (its actually stickied) (and someone will post a link im sure)
But basically you should calibrate your battery, download any software updates.
And for playback of videos and stuff you might want to get Perian.
But welcome to the mac world : > -
NeoOffice, for a free (if sorta crappy) word processor, and PaintBrush for an MS Paint substitute
And get VLC media player. Maybe some useful widgets? play around with them.
On the subject of widgets: if you have Leopard DO NOT leave iStat Pro running in the dashboard when you put it to sleep, as it will either not wake up or wake up and be laggy. Remember to close that one before sleeping.
Oh... and welcome to the club. My MBP was my first Mac too, and I love it. -
AH OK, I will calibrate the battery and download VLZ Media Player thanks (I don't see iStat Pro in the dashboard so thats good I guess lol).
I'll have a look at the Mac Switchers Thread too. -
You should get flip4mac and wmv components for quicktime asap. Get smcfancontrol to control your fan speeds.
For chatting I use msn messenger, but that's because 95% of the people I know use it, I had an ichat account, but I forgot to pay the .mac sub******ion so it got deleted. I'm thinking of giving adium another try, but I dont have many contacts on yahoo or whatever else, by not using msn I would have to stop using custom emoticons, etc, that most people have nowadays on msn.
hmmmm.... oh yeah get vlc media player, for the odd video file that wont play with quicktime. Can't really think of anything else free.
i cant write sub******ion? :S -

We're always glad to hear that you love your mac! -
Everytime I see one of these threads I get more excited I am waiting to get a MacBook Pro when Montevina comes out.
Glad to here you love your new mac! -
Get another browser to use besides Safari.
-
^ get firefox
-
Firefox on mac sucks.

I just stick with using Safari, and Firefox only when Safari doesn't want to work with email, or it's driving the temperature up. -
Yea I kinda like Safari =S.
Thanks for all the help guys, I've read all your posts. I'm not gonna sleep tonight -
-
I have used Safari, but I would also recommend Firefox. Using Macs at my friends house sometimes, there are a few sites that just don't like safari, so its always handy to have a backup browser.
Nice purchase btw -
Firefox or Opera... Safari still sucks :-/
But you may want to try the FF3 beta. Seems much more stable than FF2. -
I'm using the FF3 Beta on my laptop right now (Firefox 3 Beta 2) and its great. The new subtle features really make it better than FF2. For example it incorporates the whole drag and drop a picture (safari) while showing a preview of what you're dragging.

Welcome in the world of MBP users. I suggest to reorganise your dashboard and link a mouse click to it (I have a scroll click). It really improved my
MacOS experience - I use PHP library, stickies, MasterMind game, weather,
calendar, calculator, dictionary and others... -
I love it! People at College are like "LAWL WHAT HAPPEN3D TO YER DELL?"
Anyways, 2 questions...
1. How do you change the function key to do volumes and backlit keyboard brightness instead of shifting pages? It was doing the volume/backlit keyboard before, but I think I messed around with one of the options yesterday and did something lol.
2. -
, but read through this article and see if it helps you
