Hey guys, I have just bought my Unibody Macbook. I haven't received it yet, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips on undervolting, buying a different battery, etc. to get more battery life on it. I really need it for school and I don't always like sitting next to the plug in a classroom.

For undervolting, try CoolBook. It's software to undervolt your MB or MBP. ;)

It really won't increase your battery life that much at all. I've tried it, and all I've gotten is about 5-10 min more. Only one catch, CoolBook is $10 USD. ;)

i suggest dont do it. why would you go through all that trouble and risk? is not like the notebook is overheating... just select, better battery life, under the power scheme, and turn off bluetooth or wifi when not in use, also turn the brightness right down, as much as comfortable.

That is really the OP's best bet ;) But if you really want to undervolt, then CoolBook. If it's not that important to you but you have an interest, I'd suggest just going with what Wobble said. ;)

be careful, many of these batteries are fake and are prone to explosions. so my advice would be to stick with your apple certified battery.

dont be crazy, that battery is dangerous both for yourself and your laptop.

if you really needs more battery life from the macbook, then i suggest you bought yourself an extra battery from apple.

when you run out of battery (around 10%) put your laptop to sleep by closing its lid. wait for the white light to start pulsing (which indicate the notebook is asleep). then turn over your laptop to remove its battery. take out the battery, and place in the fresh fully charged one.

when the macbook goes to sleep, it saves its current state in both RAM and HDD. so that when the notebook wakes up, it will resume from its last state. your screen will display go white with a progress bar down at the bottom.

    so there you have it.

yes, but all the content in RAM have been saved to hard drive, hence, when it's resumed, everything is restored
