This was repaired under warranty.

When I opened it to put back my SSD, I realized that the part indicated by the red arrow in the picture was loose; the screws are tight, but if I touch it, there is a significant amount of play both left & right and up & down. Can anyone please tell me what that port is and whether it's supposed to be loose or not. Thanks!

If you don't mind me asking, how the heck did you manage to mangle that machine?
As far as your question, what side is that on? I can't tell from the picture. -
It's in this orientation.
-
Interesting. I'm totally unsure of what what is.
You dropped it and that happened? Ouch.
Wait, how did you get Apple to cover that? -
You dropped that awhile ago right? Just warrantied it now?
It looks like it's just part of the latch system. -
Not sure if that's part of the latch. Doesn't look like it's connected to anything in particular, even though it kinda looks like the end of a ribbon cable or something. Just my imagination going wild again. Is it magnetic?
-
It doesn't look like it is part of the latch system. I'll just open the 13" to see if it is the same.
EDIT: OK, I opened the 13" MBP and apparently it doesn't have this particular part. Hmmm... -
Part of the motion sensor?
-
I still think it's part of a ribbon cable or something. Could be a motion sensor of some sort.

Part of the casing/Touchpad..

AhHA! I was semi-right!

I don't think you have to worry about it being loose. If you're concerned, you should be able to take it to a Genius Bar and see what they say.

Thanks for the replies guys! Appreciate your time.
Kudos to Apple & Please help me identify this part.
