Has anyone actually seen the LED backlighting on the screens? I know they they are supposed to allow the screens to be brighter and more power efficient, but I've also heard that LED's don't last as long as the old backlights. Is this true? Can anyone that has played with them post their experiance?

I have seen LEDs on the Sony SZ premium models. They are much brighter and have better color reproduction (conveniently there was a non-premium SZ model right next to it at CompUSA). They claim to use less energy and have better battery life, which I was unable to observe (no batteries). In addition, the lid on the SZ with the LED was a lot thinner. But the MBP is still 1", don't see how it could have it gotten thinner anyways.

The Sony Vaio TX used a LED screen. It looks really impressive and has good colors and is bright, but Sony screens are always very good. Also it has a really high resolution of 1366x768 in an 11.1" screen which makes it look even better. I have not heared of problems with the LED screen in the TX. Ofcourse it has only been around for about a year or less. I think with apple you are always on the save side. If you get apple care for 3 years they will fix any problems you might have fast.

Sony was the first to introduce LED backlighting on the TX in late 2005, the first models had issues with light bleeding on the bottom but it has been rectified now. It seems as though the only disadvantage is price and all the other issues of new tech such as availability. It seems to be all the rage now.
